Lake City, November 4:?Our :ovvn was thrown into a paroxysm >f excitement about 2 o'clock this norning by the breaking out of fire n the tobacco district near the cen;er of the town, and which-finally, in >pite cf a splendid effort.resulted in he complete demolition of a twoitory frame building, a tobacco prizng, occupied by Messrs L A Winston 5: Son's and Nesmith's tobacco warelouse, the largest and most satisfac;ory warehouse in the town, just competed for use this past season at a :ost of $8,000. The fire was early discovered by 3r A H Williams, and by prompt iction of the fire department, which ronsists of a substantial chemical enfine. the fire might have been conlned to the prizing, the smaller of ;he two buildings and the smaller oss sustained. The prompt ringing of bells and topping of guns finally had the town istir but not with sufficient help, till ;he warehouse adjacent had caughtMen who were inside trying to renove a small stock of organs of the Sishopville Music House say they lave never seen any style of building jurn so rapiuiy, aiiu aiuci wie names jurstinto the building: they barely iscaped, though the house is nearly . Besides the work of Chief Rogers, ifter the engine was finally manned, favorable mention might be made of ;he work of Messrs Paul Caldwell, Eustace Rodgers and Mr Crawford, salesman for the Muefood Chemical Zo, in saving the Carter house, and Vlr D M Epps in assisting the Nesmith's. Messrs Winston & Son sustain a oss of approximately $2,500, with Si,500 insurance, while Dr Nesmith vill recover $5,000 of his $8,000 loss. ru? n.avahnncA hv .f I~) 1UC noivuvuwv .
