Before the two candidates for the ] Governorship closed their eyes in < sleep last night they had been made 1 intimately acquainted with the re- i turns in the race for the office which < they sought. Every return during j * the night which had any appreciable 1 bearing on the standing in the con- ] test was received by Governor Blease and Judge Jones as soon as it had ] been recorded. 1 The cheif executive from the Gov-1 ( /je J T.. Both candidates sup- 1 plemented the bulletin reports with j private telegrams and long distance phone messages from friends j throughout the State. The Gover- ^ nor's office was jammed until the early hours this morning with a crowd of enthusiastic admirers of the chief executive. Each time that a favorable bulletin had been flashed . on the screen a self-appointed cour- 11 ier rushed post-haste with the glad ? tidings to the waiting throng who 1 or crowded the governor's office and his appearance on the scene was the . signal for loud cheering. Governor Blease sat in his private . office and watched the shifting of the votes with the greatest interest. SI Eariy returns were favorable to the g -candidacy of his opponent, but the later reports changed that majority ? to a small minority.
