Last year I traded my c >tton setfur meal, pound for pound, and wa very much pleased with the result; This spring I bought acid and kaini and expected to make a similar trad again for meal to go with it. I wa offered lt> pounds of meal for 2 pounds of seed. 1 refused to accej this proposition. I didn't know e> actly what to do next, as meal, aci and kainit was what 1 had decide upon for my crop. It was petting iat in the season, so finally I went t sowing my green seed down in t'n water furrows, then the acid an kainit on top. covering them lightl with the plows attached to the gut no sower. About eight or ten da\ later I planted my cotton and toda have as good a stand as my neigh bors. My next door neighbor, my sor used on the same land acid and ka nit, just a turn row between us, h using meal where 1 used the whol seed. There is a striking differenc in the crop. My cotton will doubl his in size and fruit. Now, farmer, the man with th pencil behind his ear will telljyo that the oil in your seed is no gooc that the meal is best for the croj etc. Don't believe any such a thinj. I have had 35 years' experience o the farm and have never sold see at any time, traded them once an that will be the last time unless get pound for pound of 7"? meal. The man with the pencil will als t.dl you that cotton seed oil is to valuable for food products to b buried in the ground under you corn and cotton. Farmers, you hav no other use for the oil. it is you ; privilege to have plenty of lard b raising your own hogs. Many \vi say that cholera is likely to kill you hogs. The writer has not lost a ho with cholera in ten years. The would also say that all the big me trade their seed for meal. So the do, and they also get money yo don't know of. Some may say tha Johnson lives way down on Mingc where the land is naturally good Yes, it is good, but he made it so b using green cotton seed under th crop. Now,brother farmer, I have noth mg against the other tellow, du the other fellow is working for him self, why should not the farme work for himself? So,farmers, kee; j'our cotton seed unless you can pre poufld for pound of 7% meal. Als< stay as far away from a lien store a you can. Do you think them dishon est when they tell you that meal i . best? They may be honest, but havi not lived in the fields and watc-hei the difference as the sunburnei farmer has. He knows no better so don't be fooled any longer. Us* your seed under your cotton, cori and tobacco, raise your hogs am .hominy and all will be well. One more word: don't run ove each other going to the gin witl your cotton. Take your time, it wil not rot if you take good care of it Then be sure you take your see( back home the same day it come: from the gin. The other fellov knows when vou leave your seed a the gin that you left them there t< trade. Vou know that the man wh< tries to walk straight has to stum ble o\er all the knots the other fel low has thrown in his way. Some may say. "Look out. John son is going to be out for Sheriff o] ?;ompthinf else.'' hut he has all tht office he wants, and will spend tht remainder of his days on the farn trying to improve it. Some people think I get extn good prices for my tobacco. Perhaps * I do. The secret is in the cultiva tion, ar.d 1 may have something t< say about tobacco culture at tht proper time. Of course you mus' have land and seasons, but the mar is very important. I have a pea that I brought fron the old mother State about which shall have something to say later on, but I suppose there will have t( be"adv" at the bottom.
