R KUNK AP AI TO \!C DESERTED WIFE RETURNS HOME Bnsband Who Vanished with , Her Clothes Still Missing* Pretty Mrs Ray Williams, the foung woman who claims that she ivas robbed and deserted by her hus- j Dand while she was asleep in their oom at the Academy Inn, on King itreet, early last Monday morning, eft Charleston for her home at Kalimazoo, Mich, yesterday morning on ? i al ( eceipt of a ticket from ner Drotn;rs in that city. j Before leaving yesterday Mrs Wiliams stated that she had not heard )f the whereabouts of her better ^ lalf or the jewelry that she alleges vas taken away by him when he left ler so suddenly. The young woman lid not look very much like herself yesterday. Her eyes were red and swollen and face very thin. She ap- ^ reared to be nervous and tired. The details of the affair are re- ; narkable. The couple arrived here Saturday night,June l,from Branchrille, where, Mrs Williams says, her . lusband stopped over to see about some property that he wanted to buy. On coming to Charleston they registered at the Academy Inn. Sunday morning the two went over to the Isle of Palms and spent the day at the seashore, returning to their room early that night. Mrs Williams says that, being fatigued trom the island trip, she retired about 8 o'clock, leaving Mr Williams awake iq a chair reading a paper. Abont 9 o'eloeh in the morning the wife arose and found that her husband was still awake. She thai ahe had occasion to gd into ftridthef fdom, but her husband preVehted h?r> ahd; according to her Stateniefil, alftpp^d hdr fad? and ordered her back to bed* She retreated to the bed, and, although she sobbed like a baby, being tirea irom tne aii-aay crip on cne island.she again fell to sleep. It was between that hour and morning, the wife thinks, that Williams decamped, leaving her with nothing but her hat and what night clothes she wore. In her own words, "he made a clean sweep." "The nerve of the brute," as the Unfortunate woman expressed It,left her penniless and With a two days' hotel bill .ftaring her in the face. Furthermore, she declares, Williams had removed fwfc gold rings and a pair of earrings from her person while she was sleeping. Among the other things taken by the man, according to his wife, were a gold locket and chain, a gold bracelet, $4 ;n cash and all of her clothing. Having nothing to wear, Mrs Williams applied to the Salvation Army, who cheerfully sent her a neat suit, hose and shoes. She also notified her in WolomoTnn nf hpr nlitrht. ?7 I IJl UIUCIO AAA v. .... r..n / ! Mrs Williams is a young and handsome brunette, 19 years of age, and ' says she has only been married a year. Previous to her marriage she1 worked in a lamp factory at Kalamazoo, and it was there that her husband met her while he was employed as a machinist. On receipt of transportation from her brothers in the Michigan city Saturday, Mrs Williams bought herself a ticket back home and the rest she offered to Mr Cockinos, proprietor of the Academy Inn, who had so generously cared for her. Mr Cockinos did not accept the money, however, but gave it back to her so that w SUITS YARE I lave to start it L ss years to esiring the past 'er to do busire are ready to r Goods, Shoes S. C. TO DIE IN ELECTRIC CHAIR. South Carolina's New Mode of Capital Punishment. Five prisoners in South Carolina are standing within the awful shadow of the electric chair, and these will be the first to pay the death penalty since the substitution of the chair for the gallows. The chair has not yet been installed at the penitentiary, though it is not likely that there will be any hitch in the execution of the death sentence by reason in placing the in the death house which 18 being constructed within the prison walls. According to the contract with the manufacturers the chair must have been completed and ready for operation before the first of July, Samuel N Hyde, the Anderson man who killed his wife and her father, asked Judge Prince, who sentenced him last week, to place the time so that he might be the first man to die in the electric chair in South Carolina. July 5 was the date named for the execution of Hyde. July 5 is also the date for the execution of Ernest Mulwee, colored, of Walhalla, convicted of murder, - - - ; 'Ivy On July 12 another negro roust go to the chair. He ia William Reed of Starr, Anderson county, convicted of sttempted criminal assault. The month of July will be exceed* ingly notable for the number of exe^ cutions that will take place in death chair in the penitentiary, ; 1 addition to the three condemned prisoners two Charleston negT C<?1? No trace or Williams has been found.?News and Courier. ? The directors of the Modern Wood- men or America at their May session let contracts for a main building and a powerhouse for the tubercu- V losis sanatorium at Colorado Springs. At present the sanatorium consists of three groups of sixty tents each>-W each group being a square having 1 in the middle a utility house of na- J tive stone for the use of physicians ? and nurses. The main building will be located in the middle of the ^ I colony and will be supplied with all modern conveniences. Steam pipes will be run underground from the power-house to the tents. The power-house will also supply electricity. 5 or 6 doses 666 will break any w case of chills and fever; it acts on the liver better than calomel, and does not gripe or sicken. 25c. 6-23-4 m ^ J ?
