The negroes vere suspected of assassinating a yhite man. XXX As evidence of the record-breakng cotton crop for 1911 the followng figures, taken from the United States Government report, are iluminating: Total number otf bales up to January 16, 14,510,676 as compared with 11,253,147 at the same time last year. For South Carolina the figures are 1,536,572 jales for 1911 against 1,175,905 :>ales for 1910. XXX President Taft granted a pardon ast week to Charles W Morse, the Mew York banker and former head >f the ice trust, who was serving a ifteen year sentence in the Atlanta federal prison for misappropriation }f funds while vice president of the Bank of North America. Belated Local Items The many friends of Rev D M Fulton in town and county regret tc hear that he is suffering from an attack of appendicitis and was taken to a hospital at Richmond, Va, last week to be operated on. Although Mr Fulton has been pastor of the Darlington Presbyterian church for a number of ye&rs, he is a Williams| burg "boy," and has many friends here to rejoice in his success and sympathize in his affliction.
