Find Refund of Railroad Fare
Working Well.
The retailers of Charleston are
preparing to do a record-breaking
business this fall and winter. All of
them are carrying the best classes of
stock. A glance at the show windows
rounding cuuuu> as a venter.
The firms which will take part
in the rebating of railroad fares are
able to Supply all the wants of the
out-of-town customers and will pay
their round-trip fare to Charleston
for the purpose of securing their
Arade.
Thh merchants of Charleston can
offer a wide assortment of stocks of
all descriptions to the visiting purchasers,
and it is the object of the
association to treat its out-of-town
customers so well that they will want
to return to Charleston again and
gain, thua increasing the trade of
the city.
The retailers of the city, in advertising
the refund fare plan, set up
the following conditions for customers:
Out-of-town shoppers may come
to Charleston, stay from one to five
days, attend the theaters, visit the
Island resorts, etc, do buying and

street will show displays never before
equaled in this city.
Retailers believe that the home
trade will be large this season. But
they are convinced that their out-oftown
trade will increase with leaps
and bounds during the coming
months because of the refund fare
plan which was instituted by the
v. Retail Merchants' association several
months ago and which has been
bringing in rich results. Customers
from every part of the State have
been brought to Charleston to replenish
their stocks, because of the
attractiveness of the proposition
. brought to their attention by the
retailers of this city.
"It is tho object of the Retail Merchants'
association," said Mr E C
, McCarty, member of the Retailers'
association, yesterday, ' to build up
Ttoarleston as a trade center. We
want the out-of-town residents to
come to this city and see for themselves
what the Charleston merchants
have to offer, and to make their purchases
here, refunding their roundtrip
railroad# fares. We want them
ho realize that in Charleston they can
get practically anything they want.
We want them to see the large
stocks which are constantly on hand
In the local stores, and to take their
pick of the goods the local merchants
hpve to offer,"

from your railroad agent at your S

chased a ticket.

matter of selection is easy; you have
a variety to choose from. Their

The members of the Retail Merchants'
association, who have agreed

7:30 o'clock, Richard, son of Mrs,
Florine Hall. The little fellow was '
two years and two months old, and j
was the light and joy of the household,
endearing every one to him by
j his bright and winsome manner- His!
(illness came unexpectedly and the '
; tender cord of life was severed ere
: his loved ones realized the seriousness'of
his condition.
All sympathize deeply with the j
stricken mother, the aged grand- :
: father, Mr R A Watts, who loved ,
him as his own son, and the other
' relatives bereaved by his death.
The funeral service and interment;
will take place this morning at the '
Williamsburg cemetery, conducted 1
