Mr Edwin L Hirsch.who was kick-1 ed in the stomach by a mule last Friday and painfully injured, has been laid up for a week, but his friends are glad to learn that he is now able to sit up and will probably be out within the next few days. We were plea?ed to shake hands Tuesday with Auditor H L Darr, of Florence county. Auditor Darr is an old newspaper man and enjoys relating his "ups and downs" as a moulder of thought through the medium of a "country weekly." Florence county has a fine eorps of county officials and none are more affable and congenial than Auditor Darr. Treasurer J Wesley Cook has kindly consented to collect subscriptions for us while making his rounds over tho Hp will issue a temDO rary receipt to all who pay and when the money is turned over to us a permanent receipt will be given. Try to remember, then,when you go to pay your taxes, to take along an extra dollar or so to pay the hardworked printer-man. tf Constable D F Edwards brought in seven negroes yesterday, suspected of having guilty knowledge of the crime ot burglary and assault committed in the vicinity of Vox postoffice.as was mentioned last week. Mr Edwards says that a number of other negroes are under suspicion, but Willie Brown, who is believed to be the man who actually committed the crime, is still at large.
