GREELVVILLE GREETINGS. < Track oi the Storm?Death of a 4 Child -Local and Personal Items. Greelyville, August 28:?Quite a gale blew and a deluge of rain fell! feere- this morning, but no damage i mas done except the overflow of J bottom lands. i Cotton is coming in daily now; \ twenty-seven bales were ginned here ( Saturday, besides several bales came , to this market from surrounding ' country ginneries. , Mrs W C Tutle has returned from j a visit to Saluda, N C. Mrs A A Gamble has returned J i from Glenn Springs. i j Mr Henry DuBose has been si>end- 1 ing several davs Jiere with relatives. [ Mr DuBose was born and spent his early days here, but has made his home in Georgia for more than ; twenty years. ' Mr E P Howie -pent Sunday in j Manning. Mr B T Burkha'ter of Charleston ' stopped over on his way to Knox- . ville, Tenn. and is spending a few days very pleasantly with his schoolmate. Mr D J Hogan. * Mr and Mrs J A Montgomery's ' infant son died of meningitis Satur- i day morning and was buried at Mt ^ Hope cemetery the same afternoon. , The beautiful new building of the ( Greelyville Live Stock Company < lferew open its doors to the public . for business a few days ago. This 1 building is not only a credit to the j enterprising town of Greelyville but ' \ to the whole county. The line car- < ried by the company is equal to any ! in the State,as the sales for the past i six days indicate, nineteen buggies, J seven wagons and one surrey being sold in that time. ! Everybody. ] Buy it now. Now is the time to buy a bottle of Chamberlain's Colic. Cholera and Diarrhoea Remedy. It is almost certain to be needed be- ' fore the summer is over. This rem dy has no superior. For sale by all ] dealers. DOES TOBACCO PAY? I V " ] STcarly 1866 Realized from Four I Acres?Compared with Cotton. ' Does it pay to raise tobacco in this ection? This question is answered 1 conclusively by Mrs Julia Mc- ! Cutchen, whose farm is situated i ahout five miles east of town. This , widowed lady made this year 6,686 t pounds of tobacco on four acres of f land, which she sold for $773.80. ? This is an average yield of 1,6711 ^ pounds an acre, which -brought $193.45 net. Net means what remains after deducting all warehouse r charges. Every pound of Mrs Mc- I Cutchen's tobacco was sold on the I floors of Kingstree's warehouses, \ avaraging over 11 cents a pound, f Thus Mrs McCutchen realized more 0 than the equivalent of fifteen 500 b weight bales of cotton at 10 cents a b pound from her four acres of tcbac- b co! The same acreage planted in ? orvtt.m wmild have done well to Dfo- f _ duce four bales. Lv While it would not be prudent to * p/ant tobacco to the exclusion of * other money crops, yet the experi- ( ence of Mrs McCutchen and many others amply demonstrates * that it pays to diversify crops. The secret of modern profitable farming is va- ( rivd crops and small acreage highly J cultivated. ' j SI00 Reward, S100- f The readers of this paper will be plea>ed to learn J there is at least one dreaded disease that sci- f tcce Va-4 been able to cure in all its stages, and J (hat !? Catarrh. Hall s Catarrh Cure is the only 1 positive cure :>ow known to the medical fraternity. Catarrh, being a constitutional disease, requires a 0 eonstitutional treatment. Hall's Catarrh Cure is q taken internally, acting directly upon the blood r and mucous surfaces of the system, thereby de- l. stroying the foundation of the disease, and giv- 0 / wx the patient strength by building up the con- f ?' , xscutionand assisting nature in doing its wark.
