This question is answered 1 conclusively by Mrs Julia Mc- ! Cutchen, whose farm is situated i ahout five miles east of town. This , widowed lady made this year 6,686 t pounds of tobacco on four acres of f land, which she sold for $773.80. ? This is an average yield of 1,6711 ^ pounds an acre, which -brought $193.45 net. Net means what remains after deducting all warehouse r charges. Every pound of Mrs Mc- I Cutchen's tobacco was sold on the I floors of Kingstree's warehouses, \ avaraging over 11 cents a pound, f Thus Mrs McCutchen realized more 0 than the equivalent of fifteen 500 b weight bales of cotton at 10 cents a b pound from her four acres of tcbac- b co!
