CLEMSON-WINTHROP EDUCATIONAL TRAIN TO BE HERE SATURDAY--EVERY FARMER AND HIS WIFE SHOULD SEE THESE EXHIBITS. The Clemson-Winthrop Agricultural and Domestic Science train of seven cars will arrive in Kingstree Saturday,June 24. This is the larg* *- ? niit est educational tram c*ci 9Ciiv vuv by Clemson, and has an additional attraction this year in the form of two cars sent out by Winthrop College in charge of ladie^ to show the women of South Carolina how they can aid their husbands, fathers and brothers in various ways, especially in domestic science. Not only will all the field crops be on exhibition in the cars, but cars containing horses, cows and hogs will be here. Professor Barrow and several other professors will be along prepared to explain every department thoroughly and educate the people as to the best method of ac- i complishing like results in Williams-1 burg. It is not merely 10 show these animals or the breeds that they are emphasizing this line ^ of work, but to teach the judging of these animals and the quality of each kind or breed for the purpose for which it is adapted. The work will consist in the full explanation of the points of each with score cards by those in attendence. In the corn work, which is a secondary feature, a full equipment ol corn samples ranging in quality from exhibition corn?grown in the West, to a lot of home-grown corn, to be used for judging purposes, willj be shown. The subject will be studied with a view of learning more abodt the important points of corn. Germination boxes and the impori tance of goou seeu voxn w ?peciallv emphasized. In addition to the corn features an exhibit of other farm crops will be on the train. In the line of entomology, a full equipment of spraying apparatus, insecticides and a collection of injurious insects will be shown. Prof \ Conradi, who is an expert in this line, will demonstrate the use of the *\ use of the pumps and give full explanation as to the various insects and their remedies. The Winthrop cars will be under 1 A burg county corn club are expected to be here, as one of the professors will talk to them and explain how to raise as much corn to the acre as Jerry Moore did. Come and bring your family and tell your neighbors to come; it will be a gteat educational treat and no farmer in Williamsburg county who wants to be successful can afford to remain'away. Remember the train will be here but one day, and that day is Saturday, June 24. Don't forget?come and bring your family. You may never have such an opportunity again of seeing so much and learning so much absolutely free. The demonstration train which is scheduled to be in Kingstree June 24 ' will be under direct charge of Profs Smith and Ranett in animal husm bandry,Profs Napier and Haddon in corn and farm crops, and Profs Con, radi and Dew in entomology; and 1 Miss Hyde,with assistants from Winthrop College, in domestic science. Animal husbandry is made the leading feature of the train and the exhibit in this line will consist of: One pure bred Jersey cow. One pure bred Holstein cow. One pure bred red polled cow. J One purebred Berkshire sow. One pure bred Tamworth sow. One pure bred Poland China gilt. One pure?bred Duroc Jersey gilt. Two pure bred Herefords 18 months old. Two pure bred Angus heifers, 12 months old. Two pure b^ed Percheron mares, 1,700 lbs each. This live stock is all first class in quality and is carried on this train to use in teaching the points of a the direction of Miss Hyde, of the domestic science department of that institution, who will have a full exhibit of home and kitchen appliances, and deliver lectures upon home conveniences and sanitation, and give demonstrations in cooking. Mr D K Mouzon.an old Confederate soldier, passed away at his home this morning at 3:30 o'clock. He had been a great sufferer for several months past. Mr C R Frierson, who moved | from this county to Florida 44 years ago, is on an extended visit to relatives in Sumter and Williamsburg counties. He returned to Shiloh this morning from a visit to his nephew,Mr J T Frierson,at Mcuzon. Crops are needing rain very badly. I We have not had anything like a good rain since about we miuaie 01 April. Crops are looking fine, however, considering the dry weather. There is a great deal of complaint about had stands, but farmers who | have stands are very hopeful, as there is plenty of time for rain to come and relieve the condition and make pood crop- yetFarmer.
