Saturdaj morning,about 2 o'clock,it is alleged that several men went to the home of Mr John Mitchell, a prosperous t farmer living about two miles from Scranton ("his Honor" Mack Collins ?a magistrate of Florence county? his son, Hubert Lee and Daniel Lee being in the crowd),asked admission in an ungentlemanly, high-handed and boisterous manner. Mrs Mitchell opened the door and,she says, Collins and Herbert Lee came in and in an ugly and domineering manner arrested her husband. Mr Mitchell ^ was submissive and hand-cuffs were B at once placed on him. Mrs Mitchell B was then informed by the "Judge" B that he had fifty men stationed outB side and that Mr Mitchell's body B would smoke before day dawned. Mr Mitchell was then carried from his p home under arrest at the dead hours of night?leaving his family in a high state of excitement, when absolutely no crime had been committed by him. From what the writer can gather, Mr Mitchell and a negro employed on his farm had had some little controversy last Monday over the management of a share crop artfl both had resorted to guns. Some few shots were fired, but neither was seriously hurt. A warrant was issued before Judge Baldwin by Leffie Mathews, and the parties were arrested. Things passed on quietly until Friday Friday night, when "his Honor," Mack Collins, from the Oak Grove section, in Florence county, L came and created one of the most & violent excitements and disturbances that has ever occurred in our community. The foregoing article, which also appeared in The Florence Daily Times Monday, bore the following : comment: I The Times has no hesitancy in say! ing that while we publish the above accpunt of the incident, just as it is written, we are sure that our friend is allowing his sympathies to prejudice his judgment somewhat. We have known the officers referred to too long and too well to think that they would so outrage decency and we are waiting for the story from the ! other side.?Florence Ihily Timex.
