MrF G Nesmith, now of Georgetown but formerly of this place, sus- < tained the misfortune of losing by 1 fire in the latter city last Wednesday afternoon his livery and f. ed stables. The fire, so report goes, was caused by sparks from one of the boats on Sampit river. The estimated loss is between four and five thousand dollars. Our school has only a few more 4 weeks to run, to the great joy of the pupils and maybe to the schoolma'am withal. Oh, you wedding bells! One of our pretty and popular young ladies has recently purchased a nice bicycle (built for only one). Mr J" D Boyd, of the Spring Gully section, was noted in town last Friday. I am sorry to learn that W B McCants,formerly of this place but now of Georgetown, is in the hospital in Charleston suffering from a severe attack of fever. His many friends hope for his early return to health. A very enjoyaDie snaa supper was given last Thursday night by the W 0 W camp of this place to its members. By the looks of things locally last Saturday there is some "tanglefoot" still being sold around here. Don't know what has become of the officials who promised to look after these matters. Mr J Willie Moore and sister of Taft spent Sunday visiting Miss and Mrs Lewis. Mr and Mrs Ike Morris visited the family of the latter's brother, Mr C B Ogburn, Sunday. Dr L W Moore and Mr D Z Rowell attended the oyster supper given last Friday night at the school house near Earls. They report that the Misses Marshall are experts in the art of serving oysters. A crowd of young folks, accompa nied by a few older ones, met a "Old Belin's Landing" last Satur day and enjoyed an old-time fish-fry Miss Bessie Prevatt, a student o: Union High school, spent the week end last week with her friend, Mis: Carrie McElveen. Miss Rosa Tallevast, who has beei teaching school near Andrews, ha returned to her home. We are glad to see Mr S E Cree of Rhems, who has been very ill fo some time with pneumonia, able ti be out again.
