LAKfc CITY LOCAL AND PERSONAL NOTES MANY NEW HOUSES AND PEOPLE-MAGISTRATE BALDWIN RE-APPOINTED?PERSONAL. Lake City, February 2S: ? After a personal inspection we say, without hesitation, that there are more new houses in Lake City right now than ever before. And we might add, also, more new people. The time has arrived when even the old residents do not know all their fellowtownspeople. Mr 0 S Baldwin has been appointed magistrate for Lake City. It might be said that he has been doubly appointed, as he has received two nctices of appointment. His territory embraces all the section recently annexed to Florence county. The act annexing this section to Florence county was approved by the Governor on February 17. This may be regarded as authoritative,as the declaration comes from the Secretary of State. Dr A H Williams spent a portion of last week in Charleston on busi>< neas. Mr L M Belk went to Lynchburg Monday last on a business trip. Messrs Julius Hanna,J L Stuckey, W E Carter, H 0 S Jackson, W E Severance and W L Bass were in Kiagstree Monday, and when they returned home they didn't feel a hit like they had been out of their ewn county. Mr Samuel Rickenbaker, who has been teaching in Georgia for some time, is now assistant cashier in the Farmers and Merchants bank, of this town. < Major S M Askins has been drawn as a juryman in the United States court, which meets in Florence next Tuesday. Mr Ira C Gaskins, who was made very ill by eating oysters in Kingstree last week, is up, but has not yet recovered fully from,the effects f the poison. It was just as the editor of The Record said last week, the oysters were not fresh oysters, but were canned oysters, and the writer regrets that he did not make this plain in his article last week. Messrs W T Rowell and J B Files visited Georgetown Monday. Mrs W E Graham and nephew, VVeyman McDonald, visited the Sunmnrpntinn at Anftrpws Saturday of last week. A hot supper was given here Tuesday night, February 14, for the benefit of the school. Everything passed off smoothly with the exception of a little unpleasantness between two of the men present. Nothing serious, however, so report goes. Mr J W Register spent Sunday with his family in Georgetown. Mrs N W Cooke and Mrs?Powell of Andrews visited Mr and Mrs E R Powell here one day last week. Mr and Mrs E L Powell and Miss C Wells were among those who attended the Sunday-school convention at Andrews last Sunday. Mrs W H Lewis is visiting friends and relatives at Hartsville. Mr W T Rowell and Mr?Brantley are putting up a blacksmith and repair shop here. Mr J W Register, our R F D carrier, is utilizing his vacation to good advantage,having his farm fenced in with wire. While he is away his substitute is doing the daily 22-mile "stunt." The new public road from Trio to Andrews is being pushed vigorously. Mr Tom Ford, the civil engineer, is working very fast on the section between Johnson and Flat swamp. Mr and Mrs D W Bryan spent Saturday and Sunday with the former's uncle, Mr James Bryan. Mr'H L Oliver of Georgetown was the guest of Mr W T Rowell here Tuesday on a hunting trip. Luck seemed good. Mr J B McCants and Master Jim Morris went to Kingstree Monday.
