A large part of the male population of this town attended court ~ ' this week. v Mr Ira C Gaskins ate some oysters in Kingstree Monday and was made violently ill thereby% In less than thirty minutes he was a very sick man. Fortunately he vomited freely. He was able to get home that / night, but he certainly had a narrow escape from a serious case of ptomaine poisoning. Of course the person who dealt' out the oysters never for a moment suspected that they were spoiled. It was just one of those accidents that will happen anywhere at times. It seems that each year a little more fertilizers than the previous year are* being used. The increase is gradual but steady, year by year. While fertilizers, if mixed with brains, are all right, don't neglect to make apd save all the home manures possible. Keep the stables and lot well supplied with pine straw at all times, and when this stable manure is piled don't let it stand in the weather. Pile under cover of a shed or put it under a cover of earth. Pen the csttle and have more than bare earth in the enclosure. j \ For some time it had been suspectv ed that some one was stealing seed t from the seed-house of Messrs A H Williams and Co. Tuesday morning Dr Williams got up early and soon had the thief located. He is Isaak Speights, also known as the "Undertaker." The negro escaped by getting away Tn a hurry. The Civic league* has set on foot a,movement to secure improvement in station facilities at this place. For several months the matter of the separation of the freight and passenger business has been recog? nized as badlv*needed, but no definite steps were taken in an effort to remedy affairs until within the last few days. A petition asking for a passenger station and fthe separation of the businesses has been circulated and will be presented to Mr J C Murch?rson, superintendent of this division of the Coast Line. The idea is to give the company the opportunity to supply the much needed ) l \ impiovements. Should the company fail to do anything, other steps will Jbe taken.
