orders to Jacksonville are still flourishing,
the patronage coming more
from the colored element who are
able to "figure" and make a mathematical
calculation in profit and loss.
Whether the profit is made with a
dilution with water or an advance'
on the first price makes but little
difference. Some folks hesitated
about buying soon after "Judge"
Wallace accepted the place in the
express office; they thoughi that a
scheme was being worked to catch
some one by an officer of the iaw.

Pipkin and W E Snowden, of this
section of the county, are very
much chagrined (?) that they were
included in the seven thousand
whose commissions were revoked by
his Excellency, Gov Cole L Blease.
However, we are satisfied that he
met "the issue fair and square."
Notary Epps took advantage of the
last day, February 10, and used his
dilapidated seal with sufficient
remuneration to pay for another
commission. Mr Pipkin is in the
hahit of marrying people in his sec
I tion and no doubt he will make ap|
plication again, for on occasions of
this kind it is necessary for some
one to be "on the job."
Rev W E Hurt gave his hearers
a very interesting talk last Sunday
afternoon, and by way of illustrating
the extravagance of the present
age, mentioned some of the folk
. among his members of a different
section in connection with the high
price of dancing. Some of our people
dance down here, but the cost
from a money standpoint is not so
high.
Mr Wade Camlin took Misses An,
nie Phillips, Eula Kendig and Annie
""^-Davis automobile riding on Sunday
afternoon by way of Benson.
Mr Samuel Y Tisdale bas been
^ quite sick, but we are glad to hear

Messrs James and Bill Mullins
of Cades were visitors last Sunday
in the neighborhood,

I was down on a "new drive" Sunday
afternoon.
Mr Sam Brown of Kingstree. in
driving down here, seemed to have
quite a queer horse?it ran awhile
and balked awhile.
Miss Maude Chandler, who has
been clerking in Stacklev's Dry
Goods store, is at home.
Mr Frank Snowden is at home
for a few days.
Mr John Bell has left for Georgia,
where he expects to enter the turpentine
business.

Mrs H W Kussenoi dooming vaic,
and little son, Harry, have been visiting
here at her old home during
the past week.
We were delighted to have Prof.
0 M Mitchell, principal of Union
High school, and Miss Florrie
Stubbs, one of his assistants?who
had been in attendance upon an important
school meeting in Florence
?remember us with a pleasant call
on their way back to Rome.
Messrs Rob Ervin, P D and S D
Snowden, of the Indiantown section,
passed through our community mroute
to town yesterday and stopped
a few minutes with us.
I One evening last week a party of
young folks attended a dance at Mr
"J&iddy" Smith's, their mode of
travel being a wagon fitted for a
"straw ride." As one of the young
ladies leaped from the vehicle she
was bitten by a dog. The wound
was sore, but proved not to be se^,-rious.
It is well, young ladies, to
"look before you leap."
Mr R W McCutchen took a flying
trip to Charleston one day last week,
but he didn't use an aeroplane.
Mr Wade Coker has had his membership
of W 0 W transferred from
Harper's camp to Cedar Swamp.
Mr W D Brown is building a new
dwelling on his place on the road!
between here and Kingstree.
