State University, Columbia, November 21:?The present promises to be one of the most successful years i in the historv of the University. The session opened with 393 students] and ten of that number are from Williamsburg county. A new sci-j ence hall has just been completed and furnished with all modern ap- j pliances. This hall will be formally | opened on "Founder's Day," Janu-j ary 14. Dr S A Knapp will deliver: the address; on the same day will be j awarded the McMaster medal, given by the University for the greatest, service done to mankind by one of .? i i ' ! her alumni. Last year tne meaai i , was given to Mr Mclver Williamson, | and this year it will be given to Dr j i Gill Wiley. The old sciend^ hall has , been fitted up as a modern gymna, zium; one of the professor's residence has been turned into a Y M C 1 r-w i A building, which is known as Flinn , hall. This serves as a meeting place for all the students. It also has an excellent reading room, and we are j glad to note that every week "The i Record" is eagerly read there. !
