Crops around here are pretty fair as compared with some of the sections which I have visited. For once, since it has been established, the chaingang has paid us a visit. We now have a very good road from Blakeley's to Trie*, the road skirting the G and W from the former place to this town; also a fair one to Mr A W Graham's place,about * four miles west of here. The chaingang has certainly done good for us if it did not get here before. Better late than never. They could not do any more for us on account of so much rain- Gal! again,Mr Frierson, we are giad to see you. There was a picnic given last Friday, August Id, at Mr Archie Graham's place near here and of course *11 present enjoyed themselves. The county candidates were present and made speeches, which the people seemed to enjoy. Our county Treasurer said it was no use to get a new "Cook*' when you had a good one. This was one of the old-fashioned picnics for which Williamsburg county is noted all over the State. Sorry the editor was not present. Among the visitors at the picnic,not including the candidates, were: Solicitor Stoll, Mr J W Coward,Sheriff Graham and Mr P A Ai-bruok of Kingstree: J T, W E and D T Bryan of Salters; Messrs B A Brown, ? Rose, Miss Rose and Miss Baliingberger of Andrews. Miss Flossie Weaver,of the Kingstree section, is visiting the families of Messrs Graham and Blakeley near here. Miss Ulnaa Crooks of Benson is here on a visit to her sister, Mrs W T Evans. Miss ? Dennis, of the Cades section, is spending some time with the family of her uncle, Mr W E Graham. , Mr J B McCants, of this piace,has ?j^gone to Petersburg, Va., -on a visit to his sons,George and Charley, who now make the Virginia city their home. Mr LeRoy Morris, formerly of this place, but now of Waycross, Ga, is at home for a few days on a visit to his parents, Mr and Mrs Frank Morris. Glad to see you-" Roy." Mrs Frank Welch, now of Waycross, Ga, has returned to her home after a prolonged visit to her daughter here, Mrs A Gamble. County Constable Bryan was here last Friday looking after the blind tigers, but methinks he failed to find a den. Postmaster J B Files has gone on a visit to his former home at Jacksonville, N C. Mr J W Register,our R F D driver, is on a visit to his aged mother at Rose Hill, N C. We surely miss his smiling face. Mr and Mrs Waldron of Andrews spent a while here last Friday, visiting Mrs Waldron's brother and sister, Mr T G McDonald and Mrs W E Graham. Mr Norwood Register of Georgetown is here on a visit to his father, / Mr J W Register. Mr and Mrs E L Powell have returned from a vacation of ten days on Pawley's Island. Messrs Bryan and Register are having the sidewalk from the Graham bridge to the depot put in first class condition. It surely needed it. Now, the other citizens should follow the good example offered. If they^'Jo we can keep out of the mud when we go to church with our girls. After leaving Kingstree.I sojourned first at Shelhy a few days; then at Morganton, a little over a week; then at Swannanoa, upwards of two weeks?from which points I made excursions to Asheville and Moiltreat, ultimately returning to Asheville and the hospital for twelve days. On my first visit to Asheville, I met Ullie and Belle and Miss Boyd, who failing to make connection at Coinmhia,reached Asheville, early next morning. After they had breakfasted, Miss Nettie Epps called to see them, and Mr Willie Nexsen, having sought them out, took our j whole party Overlook Park (and ' light refreshments), where far nliove the din and <lust of the eity "they ealmly drinked and jawed" till time for dinner ami the train for Hlack Mountain (Montreat). How pleasant, afar from home, to meet a welcome from familiar voices, and share the cordial hospitality of friends also from the homeland! And (1 rill refer to it again) howl hope-inspiring amidst the long, lonely, painful hours in hospital, to receive calls of sympathy, leaving behind literature and fruits, and flowers; and the assurance that we are not forgotten! My longest, stay during summer was Swannanoa; a small station , twelve miles east of Asheville.
