F. D. CARRIERS MEET. Representatives from Thre< Counties Bold Conve ntion. * Florence, May 30- The rural mai carriers of Darlington,Williamsbur{ and Florence counties met in con vention here at 11 o'clock this morn ing in the court room of the Unitet States postoffice building. The meeting was called to orde: by the president, Mr. W G Campbel of Darlington. The roll was callec by Secretary J A Cook of Lak< City. Various matters of important* were then discussed, after whicl short talks were made by varioui members and visitors. Mr L M Hicks of Timmonsvillt made a short talk on "taking uj pennies from the boxes," and urgec that something be done to have th< dep&t tment abolish this rule. He also spoke on the numbering of the boxes and urged all carrier! to do what they could to have therr numbered. Dr Stanley Burch next made ? i short talk, telling the carriers thai "fie wanted them all to work for th< betterment of the mail department He said that they should all go in a? one body to do this. Dr Burch said he was glad to see ^ several representatives from different counties and hopbd they would help the ceuse. Capt .Jas 0 Ladd, postmaster at Summerville, S C, made an impressive speech, saying he had been ir the postoffice department for over tweritv vpars. and had tried to dc his duty toward the betterment oi \ the service. His talk was greatly enjoyed. Mr J A Cook also made a short talk. He referred to the roads, and that some carriers had to gc through roads that were not public roads. He spoke of the raising of the salary of the carriers. He urged that all their efforts should be put forward for the betterment of the roads. He was 77 years i 1 of age, a Confederate veteran and a 1 member of Georgetown lodge,A F M. 5 j The funeral services,conducted by ' Rev B J Woodward, took place on *' Friday at 12 ?'clock noon at Green}: och church, near Gourdins. 1 j Mr Blakeley leaves a wife and five *, children.
