What a Ton of Cottonseed Is Worth, i One too of cottonseed used as fer 1 tilizer is worth Sib.00. j ; One ton of cottonseed used as feed | and stable manure, $31.25. One ton of cottonseed sold and the proceeds used to buy meal and the , meal fed and stable manure saved, | $42.75. One ton of seed sold to the mills is worth $27.00 to $30.00. In comparing these figures it must J i be remembered that in estimating the i i fertilizer values of a ton of seed and j j of manure the prices of plant foods j pi mixed commercial fertilizers are ! ! used, and in estimating the feeding! j value of cottonseed and cottonseed j meal we have used corn at 50 cents j | a bushel as the standard. The facts upon which our calcti-j latious are based are simple and may i be briefly re-stated as follows: ( Cottonseed contains 3.0 per cent I of nitrogen, 1.3 per cent of phos-1 phorie acnl and 1.2 per cent of pot- j ast). Cottonseed meal contains 0.2 per j Jcent of nitrogen, 2.8 per cent phos' phoric acid and 1.8 pe.* cent of potash. The values of these plant foods in j mixed commercial fertilizers are csd- j I'culated at 20 cents a pound for nitrogen, 5 cents a pound for phos' phoric acid and 51 cents a pound for i potash. The feediug values of cottonseed meal and cottonseed are shown by the following facts which we have used in our calculations: One hundred pouuds of cottouseed meal equal 150 pounds of cottonseed. One hundred pounds of cottonseed meal equal 175 pounds of corn, i On e hundred pounds of cotton seed equal 115 pounds or corn. These relative values uieau that with corn 50 cents a bushel cottonseed meal is worth about $31,00 a ton and cottonseed about $20.00 a ton, or *30 cents a bushel of 30 pounds, for cattle feeding. ?
