Such papers are grouped together,all of them, good, bad and in* different, and they are referred to by newspaper men and advertisers as papers of the least influence. No matter what you do, if you use a leady print service you cannot hope to have individuality, nor can you hope to have the standing or circulation of a home print paper. The advertising space in home papers of small circulation is known by advertising agents and newspaper men to be worth more than the same space in a ready print paper. A home print paper gets the benefit of foreign advertising and can refuse that which is objectionable. It knows that its editorial policy can be sustained throughout its columns and that none of the veiled advertising that is used in the reading matter and feature matter of ready print houses can find a place with it. The publisher can control the matter and dictate tbe maKeup. ne can meet the demand of his local and foreign advertisers for position. As a result ot the enhanced value of the space the returns from the advertising are greater, contributing in a large degree to the success of the paper. The publisher of a home print paper can give auy amount of space to local happenings of unusual importance and will not crowd out local news when advertising is heavy. All rmblishers realize the danger of starv x~ _ ing their readers for want of local news and reading matter. The home print paper does not entice trade away from home by carrying foreign advertising that interferes with the local merchant* The ready print houses make their profits from advertising that papers that have the welfare of their town at heart should not carry.?Ex. It will only be a , few days now before most of these in- I sects will have left their places of 1 protection to begin their work of ; destruction upon the budding or- chards, then it will be too late for , action. It is extremely important that some actioD in the matter be taken immediately. There are many orchards in the State infested with San Jose scale that have been pruned 1 and the badly infested material left lying in the orchard. This mistake 1 should be corrected, because such infested material is a menace 10 toe rest of the 01 chard and to the whole oommunity in which it is found, being a constant source of infection, Then there are those trees that are heavily infested with the Shot-Hole Borer, recognized by the small round holes in the bark, resembling those made by number 8 shot and usually a general unhealthy condition of the tree. This insect passes the winter as a small white grub in its burrow in the dead tree, emerging in spring as a small white brownish beetle. Trees are often completely girdled by this insect,causing them to die iD the course of a few weeks. Besides the two just mentioned, there are numerous other insects that inhabit dead wood and rubbish lying aronnd thp nrph-inl.
