Contest'" and there are
two medals to be given. One is !
to be given to the boy from the
eighth, ninth or tenth grade

grades who declaims best. The,
boys and girls are very busy
preparing their declamations i
for the pieliminary contest,
which is to be in April. At this '

A number of the school girls,
both the little ones and larger
girls, are practicing this week
]* . for a drill, which will be presented
at the opera house next
Friday night along with the
play, "The daughters of the
. - Confederacy." The play will
be given by local talent and the'
. whole entertainment, though
ftL gotten up rather hurriedly, will
be well-worth attending. As
I part of the proceeds is to go to
the Confederate monument

the double purpose of helping
a worthy cause and of enjoying
themselves at the same time
