BASS HAS BILL TO PROTECT FISH.
Williamsburg Senator Introduces
Important Measure.

protection of gauie fish in the State I
and for the repeal of certain laws I
relating thereto. <
The bill provides that, for the 1
purpose of classification, the follow-1\
ing fish shall be known as game: e
fish: Jack fish or pickerel, pike, t
black bass or pond trout, sti iped (
bass or rock fish, warmouth, red!t

Violation of this Act is punished t<
with a $20 fine or imprisonment of b

act above does not apply to such
persons catching game fish with a C
net for the purpose of stocking
streams, nor for commercial purpos- i
es. The nearest game warden must j

ing the fish is for stocking a stream. ! "

Section 7 provides that no navig- ^
able stream should be obstructed by a
dam 01 otherwise unless there be
provided a fish way in same.
Section 8 provides that it shall be

Any non-migratory fish, except '
game fish, allwife or herring and 1
shad, may be caught at any time or
in any manner not prohibited by

pher G Carsten died after an illness *
of several weeks. Mr Carsten was ]
sixty-three years old at the time of c
his death, He was born in Charles- c
ton and received his education in *
the schools of that city. Twenty-two j
vear3 ago he moved to Cades and by t
his careful and business-like meth- o
)ds accumulated considerable prop?rty.
During the Civil war Mr Cars- ?
en was a member of the Palmetto n
iuards of Charleston and gave good
service to his country for four years.
