management. Mr Chandler, the
proprietor, has all his new furniture

Miss Cora Garner of Darlington
has organized a class in vocal
music among the young folk
in town with an ear for harmonies.
Miss Garner is a graduate
of vocal music at Converse College
and her voice is a clear,
sweet soprano.

for $7.00. .The other two tax
sales kad been withdrawn.

where they spent a few minutes
in pleasant conversation. From
hej-e they were ushered into the
parlor to try their skill in
guessing the numerous questions
asked about a variety of domestic
articles which they
found displayed on the table.
The prize, a beautiful box of
stationery, was awarded Miss
Eloise Sturgeon, and for
bis earnest but unsuccessful
efforts, Mr Spencer Legette was
gi ?Ten the man's consolation?a
pipe.
The guests were then conducted
into the simply but
artistically decorated diniug
room where an elaborate course
supper was served. This being
dispensed with, cards, on which
wf?rp nrinted a number of very
interesting' topics of conversation,
were distributed.
The ladies were then allowed
a few minutes to make engagements
with the young men
and at the sound of a bell each
couple found a "cozy corner"
and began the discussion of
the first subject. At the end of
live minutes the bell was again
sounded and the ladies found
their partners for the next
topic, and so the fun continued
until the clock chimed twelve.
Music for the occasion was
