THURSDAY, JULY 30. 1908. , I In Harness Again. After an abseuce from the office for one month the editor of The Record is back at his desk with renewed energy and determination to endeavor to give the people of Williamsburg a better county paper than ever they have had before. By reason of illness and "that tired feeling*'j : pditor has lUtlUCUl HitlVlVj VMV t not penned a line for the pajk-r, nor has he seen a single business or other communication that came i to the office during his absence. He is trying to gather up the more or less tangled threads of1 the business department as soon as possible, so as to get matters: adjnsted satisfactorily where misunderstanding exists. We ask any and all our friends who have cause for complaint to write us1 tT at once stating the circumstances - -1" wo man d#>nended ' LI IJ flUU TV v UHIJ vw %? | ? # I upon to correct any mistakes that! may have been made prior to or dnring our absence. In the nature ? of things it is to be expected that there would occur mistakes , in the office when the head of the business has been so long absent. So grant us charitable indulgence and aid us in adjusting all matters as speedily as possible. To our good friend, Rev J E Mahaffey, we are under great and lasting obligation for the admirl able manner in which he has conducted the editorial column of j this paper, as well as for other favors rendered. We also are * ^ 1 . 1 J _ ' inaeotea 10 our uicvci juuug friend, Judge Wallace, for Taluable assistance in filling our columns L' with readable matter. Last, but not least, we return p grateful and appreciative thanks j I. to our office force, under the able direction of Mr J W Cargile the accomplished and versatile foreman of the mechanical department for the faithful and excellent work they have performed. On Mr Cargile the burden of responsibility has been particularly heavy, he being local editor, business manager, proof reader, job printer and having innumerable duties that the public never suspects piny a very important part in the making of a newspaper. Any mistakes he may have made are lost in his zealous and loyal service rendered when . ; most needed. We would be guilty of gross insensibility did we uot give expression to the deep appreciation in our heart for the warm welcome given us on our return home aod the many kindly offers of aid in the management of the ; paper during our enforced ab- j sence. Words are futile to convey the depth of our feeling and we hope to give practical form to our gratitude by striving more than ever to aid in making: Williamsburg the greatest in all' our galaxy of counties, andj % I Kingstree t he bright particular star in constellation of countv' " 1' capitals. C. W. \\. The Columbia State seems to be making a strenuous effort to'] reail the Charleston News and!J Courier out of the Democratic party. - . !; Among the towns in the "Low i Country*' that were villages a little 1 while ago, none has grown more rapidly than Kingstree. X< ic< am! ? ourier. And the old town is still 1 : ; a-growing, contemporary. With Black river opened 11 p for navi-j" I gation and a few industrial enterprises now on the tapis, the next < tew years will see indeed a new, and greater Kingstree. | ( Health Hints. The observance of a few sim- 1 i i pie rules will add much to the j; much to the health and comfort , af those living in a warm climate 1 like ours during the summer. Avoid the use of meat as r\m;h as possible, especially old meat. Besides being a he ducerand hard to digest,it is calcareous matter and is su. bring on premature old age, n matism and general decrepit It lays the foundation for mai. diseases that might otherwi.never have gained a foot-hold ii the human system. Nature never J intended the stomach to be used t as a cemetery. \ Eat plenty of sound, ripe fruit I and vegetables and home butter, ^ and drink good, fresh buttermilk. < It's strange to us that there are so few good cows in this land c g of Goshen, and so few that know j how, or are williug, to take care of one. A good cow is worth $97.50 to any family outside the i health considerations. \ Frequent bathing is great for I hot and cold weather. I don't j mean like an alligator takes it. ? A good sponge bath that can be taken in a few minutes is better than to roll around in the river an hour or two hours. All you want is to keep the skin clean and 1 the poies open. A good basin j of water on the washstand and an empty tub to stand in is a ery good outfit. Wring the towel and scfub with it to finish. , Make it your business to drink j plenty of artesian water fresh i from the spout. It is just the < right temperature for health as , as nature furnishes it. You do j not need to put ice in it. i JEM 1 qtate of Ohio, City of Toledo,) Lucas County. ) Frank J Cheney makes oath that he is senior partner of the firm of F J Cheney & Co, doing business in tne city of Toledo, county and State aforesaid, and that said firm will pay the sum of One Hundred Dollars for each and every case of Catarrh that cannot be cured by the use of Hall's Catarrh Cure.
