Two new candidates are anc-, nounced in The Record this week I as candidates for Congress, viz.: Messrs J R Coggeshull and J E 'y EUerbe. Mr Ellerbe is the present incumbent, having held the office for the past four years. (Mr Coggeshall is a member of the Darlington bar and has sonu strong friends in this county. r Anybody passing through this section of country would not need to be told what an interest the people are taking in education. The handsome new school bmiaings luac one sees m a um from North Carolina to Charles ton would speak for themselves I* , the handsome new b u i 1 d i u g ai Latta, again at Dillon, Florence Lake City and Kiugstree tell their own story.?Florence Times. ?? At this session of court twc new officials made their debui here, viz: Judge Wilson and So licitor McLaughlin. Judge Wil son needs no introduction in Williamsburg county and the ability and dignity with which he ful w filed the duties of his high and responsible position was what hii friends expected, but the new so licitor, Mr McLaughin, is als< 'i entitled to commendation for th< vigorous manner in which he rep. resented the State. We of coursi would prefer a Williamsburg mai to hold this position, but if w< go outside the county Mr Mc Laughlin is our choice. Geyernor Hey ward's With* Drawal, Former Governor Heyward'i thousands of friends throughout South Carolina are disappointec to learn that their favorite can ' ? Governor Hey ward is easily one of the most popular men in South I j (' a i o 1 i n a today and | j there are many who have had I personal relations with him and who know him to be a high bred, > t polished gentleman. To these his ' withdrawal from the race causes a feeling of the keenest disappointment and they can only hope that he will soon be fully restored to health and that they may have at some future day the pleasure of demonstrating to him their friendship in a political i way. 1 Stoll For Solicitor. At a meeting of the Board of t Trade last Monday night a reso[ lution was introduced and unanimously adopted by a rising vote, endorsing Philip Stoll, Esq., of the local bar, as candi1 date for solicitor of the third ! judicial circuit. This is as it should be. It will be remembered that when Solicitor Wil' son was elected Judge the Governor appointed WH Wells, Esq., of Florence in his stead. Then, when the new circuits were formed, Mr J B McLaughlin of ' Bishopville, the .present incum bent, received the appointment. The election for this office has really never gone before the r ' people since Judge Wilson succeeded himself four years ago. Mr Stoll is a man well qualified to till this office and he should receive the unanimous support of his home county. He is a ready speaker, and he will make a vigorous campaign and his chances for election are excellent. As a matter of local pride every voter of this county who can influence some one in another county should turn him to Mr Stoll. If this be done and his i 1-*- - 1 - home count)' support nun loyally his election is assured. There is this to remember : It > has been twenty years since any Williamsburg" county man has even offered to an elective office , in State, district or circuit. Now that we have a candidate with grit and backbone enough tc venture beyond the local pool ^ into the maelstrom of politics let us give him our hearty and i loyal help. To elect Mr Stoll solicitor would be the best advertisement ^ that Williamsburg- has had for many years. First, let the world know that we have a county that is second to none in the State in fertiiity of soil and resources ; and second, that we have confidence in and will sup^ port our home men. Vote for Stoll. 3 ' Governor D C Heyward Withdraws. Hon D C Heyard, on account oi ill health, has withdrawn from the " race for United States senator. 1 This came as a surprise in the press ? reports of Thursday of last week . and equally so was the announcement of Mayor R Goodwyn Rhett of Charleston as a candidate for the same office.
