I (Farmers Raise Fine Porkers-Death of a Child-Horse and Buggy Stolen. j Lake City, January 14: E L L Hirsch, Esq., was noted here ^ from Kingstree Friday. f Mr R F Cox came up from Johnsonville Thursday and spent the day in town. Mr J M Matthews killed a pig last week that weighed 444 pounds net and yielded 110 lbs of lard. It was two years old. Just figure a little and see what 1 Hi this pig is worth, and then say ' ? that it does not pay to raise pork, if you can do so without W insulting your common sense. ] Hon W L Bass went to Colum- 1 \ bia Monday to attend the ses- 1 sion of the general assembly ^ 9 which meets Tuesday. There are several girls at Dr J B DuRant's, but there was no boy there until one day last ; week when a little fellow came to brighten his home. i Mr J A Coward, whose home is near Anderson's bridge, killed a little pig last week that balanced the scales at 460 SgL pounds and he blessed us with ' ^ the backbone. My, but it was I fine. Which, the pig- or the 1 backbone? Both, of course. Any one would call a two and a < ^" halt year old pig weighing , that amount fine, and we doubt that any one would hesitate to say that backbone "purlieu" is fine. Little Robert Furman Askins, the six months old child of Mr and 1 Mrs H G Askins died on the 9th i instant. Many days and weeks the little fellow suffered until the angel that sweeps away ? every care came and bore him s away where pain never comes. The following day the mortal remains were laid in its little i bed in the cemetery. Mr and Mrs Askins are indeed very grateful to all friends, especial- j ly the ladies who were helpful j in so many ways during the lingering illness of their child. ^ On last Thursday night some , one stole Mr F Marion Britton's { horse trom Mr Britton's home ( raearRome.Fridaj the horse was found near Beulah in possession , ot uaniei uavis, a negro. L?avis , was arrested.
