The following* sketch of his 5 life is given by the Kingstree correspondent of the News and Courier || MrS.McBride Scott dropped dead on Main street here Tuesday afternoon about 4 o'clock. He was standing engaged in conversation with a friend at the Bank- of Willia&sburg, when, without warning, he fell forward on his face. Medical aid was promptly summoned, Dr. Jacobs reaching him in a few ^minutes, but he never moved or ^"spoke after he fell, and was * " dead when the physican reached his side. , With tbedeath of Judge Scott, as he was affectionately called by the whole county, another , landmark of this old town passes away. At the time of his death Mr Scott was the oldest inhabitant *of the town, being about 73 years of age. Our Correspondent Does Not Favor New County Scbene. cades,December31:?I notice in last week's issue of The Record that our friend, The limes' correspondent, "Knocks Kingstree to boost Ijake Citf," with regard to the scheme projected to form Lake county entirely out of Williamsburg territory, with La>ke City as the county seat. We will admit that Lake City I S J is nusumg ana tunving ana her people progressive, but we fail to see tow we will be benefited by having extra taxes to pay to meet the demands of a new county government. We deem it bad enough to have a gallows on one side of us, but to become so unfortunate as to have one on either side suggests Sherman's definition of war. Mr Editor, we have no desire to reflect on Lake City, but we hope by calling attention to these things to awaken the | good citizens 01 wunamsDurg residing in the lower part of the county. That it is a little farther from Johnsonville to Kingstree than from Lake City to Kingstree every one knows, so that, if we are to have the new county, it would be decidedly to the interest of the people in that section to have a county seat among them. We wish to advise the people living in the lower part of Williamsburg to open their eyes and see the position they will be placed in if they sleep on their rights and allow Lake county to be voted in. When time comes for yoting on the county question we want every man to go to the polisand 1 CHEAP! K CAR LOj j HORSE iAf ]\ Come in and lo< It wont cost yo see them M. F.
