According to previous announcement the Gibraltar Paint and Roofing Co. of Charleston on last Saturday gave a practical demonstration of the efficacy of their paint in resisting fire. The exhibition took place on Main street in the presence of a large crowd of people gathered to witness the test. As announced a small wooden house, having been painted with Giblaltar paint both inside and out, was filled with excelsior, slats of wood and other combustibles, the roof covered with straw and the house saturated with kerosene oil. tt was then set on fire and for sixteen minutek withstood the severe onslaught of the flames. , Mr Gould, who was here rep esentiuc the manufacturers of :be paint, gave a very interestng talk on the Baltimore fire which he witnessed) and explained the merits of the Gi>raltar paint. He does not claim that this paint will not make a building ire-proof, but it will resist the :he fire long enough to put it v >ut if there is any fire fighting ipparatus at hand. The Kingstree Hardware Co. las secured the agency for the libraltar paint for this section THE GRIM REAPER / ' fitb Sickle Keen Cuts Down a Fair Young Life. Her many amiable qualities ained her a large circle of friends bo sincerely mourn the goiDg out f her young-life. Death, the Reap* , is no respecter of persons and owers must fall as well as oaks. t is particularly sad, however, that j Mrs. Flagler's death three all children?the youngest a babe : nine months- are left without a tother's fostering love, and the rang husband, who has only recentrecovered from a long and almost ital illness, has to assume the utire burden of their care and pro* ctien. Mrs. Flagler's death was due to 7sipelas caused by a small pimple i her face. No one thought it rious, but when erysipelas set in it as only a matter of hours when the id came. She was only twenty-six ' Mrs old and just a few years ago as a happy bride. The funeral took place on Friay afternoon at 2 o'clock when the mains were interred at the Wilamibarg oemetery, Ber.'
