DTNAMTE! Vacant Tenant Hoase on Railroad Avenue Wrecked. For the first time probably since the settlement of the Scotch-Presbyterian colony that gave birth to the town of Kings tree and the county of Williamsburg, dynamite, the weapon of the anarchist, has been used to destrov property. Tuesday morning-, about 4 o'clock, the J people of Kingstree were start- 1 led by an explosion that sounded } like the firing of a battery of ar- 1 tillery. Daylight revealed the ' fact that a tenant house on ' Railroad avenue, owned by Dr 1 DC Scott, had been wrecked. 1 The bouse was vacant at the 1 1 time,so nobody was killed or injured, which surely would ' have been the result had it been 1 occupied. ' The theory as to motive is ( that some person or persons re- 1 garded the former inmates of the house as "undesirable citi- ? zens'' and this demonstration was intended as a warning to 1 future occupants. Dr Scott, the c owner, says that no complaint has ever been made to him about the tenants of the house and he feels justly incensed at the wan- f ton destruction of his property. Editor County Record:?The iea occurred to me a few days ago o steal away from work and visit iuce more, after several years, the ileasaut beach of Pawley's island. Ve arrived here after one day's rive through the country to Georgeown, where we spent* the night. ?he next morning the steamer F G lorrougbs, Capt. Dusenbury, landd us safely at True Blue, where a ? tack was in waiting for a spin of our miles to the island. Few peotie visit ibis island nowadays, depite the fact that a better beach ? an scarcely be found on the coast, c o far as natural advantages go. 0 This is a very unfortunate condition, F ince there is no other cbance for so nuch real outing aud recreation 11 luring the hot months at so little v ost, aud so convenient as is afforded ? lere. Then, too, the people ought o feel a natural pride in this native 9 esort. For two years the enter- ^ >rising people of the A G Lumber a Corporation operated two hotels and c - - ? ? - TT , 1 i railroad from tne island conagiey, * bus furnishing a great convenience * ong needed, but for some reason, ll Kwsibly lack of sufficient patronage e >t the island generally, these have wen abandoned and probably will ^ tot be reopened. The cause of it all & oust be that our people are patronzing the resorts farther away, for the D limple reason that they are able to 0 lo so; but such a practice,so long as t means a destruction of our lome resort, ought to be discouraged. We hare possiblv come in a bad ^ ime, as the weather is showery, and ^ lathing is not such a luxury when here is an admixture of the waters. It is poor taste, we recognize, to iriticise unless iuvited, but when uch serious and flagrant mistakes t is the wholesale butchering of our { >eautiful, native long-leaf pine forest, such as is in evidence near George- , awn and on the peninsular between J ;he Waccamaw and the island, it j leems like one's duty to speak out jpenly. For miles between Weenee river and Georgetown, one experiences a rare delight in a drive over the excellent roads (for which Georgetown county is famous), that penetrate the beautiful open pine woods. But his delight, iastead of ' being enhanced as he nedrs the supposed center of enlightenment, fades into gloom as he passes into the tur- ^ pentine woods around the city. This is almost a disgrace, and we would \ ar\ n nn 11 a li fiofl I u if VP If n P W bX' ' J OV UU\|UHI4UVUIJ M ?> w ?.<. .. ictly where to lay the blame. Be that as it may, both this beautiful i jtretch ef timber aud that still more ' a ittractive tract lying between the Waccamaw and the ocean are now loomed to an early and utter deduction, never again, perhaps, to i>e restored, certainly not for many iecades, even centuries. What are l :he people goiug to do about it? The ( lome builder is discouraged at this j light and turns his eyes to other ands, and yet we wonder at our native 1 nen and women flocking to the c litie s. Sincerely yours, L. A.
