Kittystree's pet and pride, is now paid for nud is the property or the school district, which is co-incident with the corporate limits of the town. We believe in bestowing honor where it is due and while the entire l.nanl of trustees of the school are deserving of commendation for their J efficient services iu the matter of building this splendid edifice, vet itj is the chairman of the board, Mr Louis Jacobs, on which the heaviest part of the burden has naturallv fallen. It is to be borne in mind that these trustees have received not a cent of compensation, and to direct and overlook this work has , been truly a labor of love for Mi Jacobs, albeit he has not a child to derive benefit from the instruction imparted by the faculty of the school. A brief resume of the cause and effect of the present school building may not come amiss just at this time: In the fall of 1903 a few of the citizens of the Kingstree determined upou the erection of a new modern school building. An act to authorize an election for or against the issuing of bonds for this purpos" waspassed by the general assembly, and the election held under its provision was almost unanimously carried, ouly 2 votes being cast agaiustsuch bonds. The board of trustees decided to place the loan with the Bank of Kingstree rather than issue 20 year hernia aa th?v f?-lt snhsfied the debt would be extinguished long befoie that period, as city council had agreed to turu certain funds over to I them for that purpose. The services of Capt J A Kellev were generously placed at the disposal of the trustees in drawing all necessary legal documents, and the board expresses itself very grateful for such services. The cost of building, furniture, grounds, etc., aggregate abou t $15000, all of which has been paid. TO ILOSE UP THE HUM MILL Text of the Bill Providing for Winding Up the G. N. I.
