L Bass PHYSICIAN AND SURGEC * Kingstree, 5. < j , 1 AN EARNEST PLEA FORMHHIO VIEWS EXPRESSED BY A FORMER CI ZEN OF WILLIAMSBURG. Editor Count)' Record: Having noticed for some ti the arguments pro and con regard to the dispensary, a seeing in your paper of Octol t 26 that an election has bt called for the purpose of det mining whether or not the p pie of Williamsburg county v keep the dispensary in . th midst on that date, I ask space in your paper to addn myself to the yitizens (and p ^ i ii.- A: ^ tlCUitiriy to tut: voting im/.ci of Williamsburg- count}', on 1 subject that is now confronti them; not that I have any gr< influence in your county: not cause I believe my suggestic will be taken by its people; 1 because of the love that I ha for the people of the com where I was born, and whert have lived for almost all ot i life. The principal argument us >VTTynm>>VT>VtVtft>VmVW; <$am> FULL m WIHTEi ~ STYLE g and Stay Fit. Hundred Cents for a Dollar. mi will convince mil in # - - ? i M Ming .on the Ml. MADE BY ard, Schat NEW YORK AND SAVANN A"VYVVYYVVVYYYVVVYVYYVVVVVVVVv in favor of the dispensary, is ! that it does so much in the great | work of education. Now, if | there is a man iu the State j whose children are dependent j 1 upon the sale of whiskey for an I education, I have never heard of op him: and if there is such a man in Williamsburg, he certainly is different from the men that I ? knew in all my experience there, ^0 and it seems that in the present | state of affairs, if-they are dependent upon the dispensary or j its funds tor an education they 0.1 will have to grow up uneducat? ed, because that institution has , failed to accomplish the pur f pose for which it was created. ^ It seems to be the main argu^'jinent against prohibition that ! "the prohibition law cannot be ? ^enforced,'' and to the-people I who have been using such a flimsy argument as that, I will N' address this question: Are the laws of God as given us in the Holy Scriptures any the less sacred because of the fact Tl- that men "doth daily break them in thought, word and deed?" No, His laws are "the same yesterday, today and forever" and me the transgressor is in fault and in not the law, and when the peond pie by their ballots make a good 3er , law and do all that is within ?en ' their power toward the enforceer ment of that law, then their eo- part is done. rill No law-making power can eir prevent offenders from breaking foi the laws made by them, they ass ran onlv orescribe a suitable "" J X ar- penalty for such as do transis) 'yress and break the. law, the: Hie question has been asked, n<j "Why will men who drink whis?at key vote for prohibition?" be- Which amounts to the same >ns tiling as asking, why will a sinjut ner pray:"lead us not into tempive tation?" ' R I il & Co., i AH. | ^AWAAAWMMAAMAWMy lie should do all within his power to remove the evil that causes him to fall in the day of his i temptation. Some people seem to think : thpt if you get prohibition, the county will be impoverished because of its citiKens sending- to other States for whiskey. Now, those people may believe that, | but J do not believe, mat sucn a. state of things w.ill come to ' pass in old Williamsburg- and I don't think I ever shall believe it. I did not start in with the intention of writing a sermon, but I we should remember that ouj : laws had their foundation and should be based upon the laws i of God, and the voters will do j well to remember that in the coming election. And I make the assertion that the prohibition law can be made and enforced, because I am now living in a town which has about two thousand inhabitants, where prohibition is strictly enforced, or at leas* the sale of liquor is completely stopped. Hut some people would drink i# you had a prohibition law that required them to wear a muzzle. L N ERVIN. De Funiak Springs, Fla. Foreclosure Sale. i STATE OK SOUTH CAKOLl.NA. OorxTY ok Wn.i.iamsqrko.
