The committee's report was not annonnced until after 10 o'clock and it had been awaited w'ith intense interest by the 100 or more growers and bnyers at the hotel. It did not give entire satisfaction, but i* a compromise. Mr Smith contended for a miu mum of 10$ cents now, with a later announcement of a higher minimum. He was ovexruled dispitc his eloquence and was compelled to .accept 11 cents. There were members of the committee who held out for 12 cents as a minimum and others wanted to put it even higher. All ' of this was threshed out in Secret sessioh and when the report was pre sen ted to the open meeting it n unadopted without a word and the committee took up other business relating to the proposed amendments to the constitution. .Eleven cent* ior cotton at me home market is equivalent to 11 l-?! or more at the ports. The Octol>ei quotation today was around 10 37100 So that the committee ha> called upon the producers to hold for an advance of about 03 points. .
