Lakr City, September 22.?Hon. k W B Cause, of Florence county spent a part of a day last week in town. He was re-elected to the House in the firt primary and. at the head of the tic Miss Man le Green has gone to Red Springs,. N. C., to school. Mr R E Rickenbaker. who has been teaching at Isle of Georgia, spent wfew days list week in town with his family on big way to Marion to takecharge of a school. Mrs C S Lucas and children of Florence are visiting at W L Bass, fcaq'aLeRoy I/ee, Esq., ran up from Eingstree Friday for an hour or two oil professic nal business. [ W H Wells, Esq., of Florence spent Saturday in town in conference with W L Bass, Esq., on matters professional. Miss Dorothy Rickeubaker lias gone! to Greenville, where she will take a! course in the Greenville Female College. Mr J H Black well took a buggy , trip np in Darlington county Thursday and rt turned home Simday afternoon. He spent most of the time in and near the town of Darlington. The work of the storm in the sections traveled, he found very similar to its operations in this county, erratic, damaging certain places very little and playing havoc in others. Mr Weathersbee ot Johnsouville , passed through here Sunday ou his way to his old home at Williston, S. C.r where he will spend some days. Mr R B Gaskins spent Mondav in Kingstro on business. The storm of last Wednesday did very little damage here coinp ared with its work in other sections. A few trees and some little fencing were blown down and most houses were flooded with water which injured furniture and carpets. This was about the ext?nt of the injury inflicted on us. W L B. Mr S M Brad.sluw has fitted up his new store and seems to be doing a good business. Mr S .1 Taylor is having a new front, put on his s'.oie, which will add much to its appearance. The Bank of Greelvville was opened last Thursday and starts off with flattering prospects. The Mallard Lumber Co is making good progress with its new mill. The machinery is beiug placed in position and the mill will probably be running in the course of a week or two. The Greelvville school was opened today with Mr Capers Smith of Charleston as principal, and Miss Irene Brailsford of Florence, as assistant. Mrs Stacia Connor, with her son and two daughters, Misses Alice and Estelle, is living in the cottage recently built by Mr E B Rhodas on Main street near the Methodist parsonage. Mr Mood Connor is night operator at Lane's bnt spends the days here. Miss Jessie Hoiliday of Lane's has been spending a few days with her sister, Mrs John Clary,on Mill street. Miss Gnssie Appelt of Manning spent Sunday here with the Misses Connor. Mr A B Cothran, who has been clerking for the Greelvville Mercantile Co for the past month, has resigned his position. Mr G B Browder is building a neat dwelling just out of town, at the unner end of Main street. i i Miss Wyutt Buird, who has been spending several months with her sister, Mrs K S Brunsont Jr., returned hift week to her home in North | Caroliua. It seems to be a difficult matter for ! us to keep a magistrate. The resignation of Mr J] 0 Li turner leaves the position vac-ant again.
