The annual meeting of the stockholders of the Bank of Kings tree was held last Friday. The State election commissioners met Tuesday and tabulated the returns of the special election held at Cowards on December 29. The official count showed 33 votes in favor of the proposed transfer of territory from Williamsburg to Florence county, and 6 against it. Mr S G McDonald carried the returns to Columbia Tuesday night. Mr and Mrs C K Davis, who have been living in Florida for several yea.cs, arrived here Tues day and are spending* few days at the home of Dr DC Scott. Mr and Mrs Davis will not return to the "land of flowers", being convinced that nowhere else is quite so good as the old Palmetto fctate. They will make their home in Marion county. Messrs Thomas & Bradham, who have a branch business here, suffered a severe loss last Sunday in the destruction of their livery, sale and feed .stables, which were burned along with eight livery horses and a fine stallion valued at several hundred dollars, also a number of buggies, wagons,etc. The total loss is estimated at $10,000, with about ?5,000 insurance. The stables wer e located at Manning. The less sure a man leels of his position, the more indignant he is if anybody doubts it.
