The jj amount for which suit was brought u was $20,000 and in the trial in the ]a lower court Riser was granted a verdict for $8,000. c] The case was appealed to the suprerae court, which yesterday placed ^ on file its decission and the action of a the court below sustained. A magio lantern exhibition wis given here Monday night Rev Wm Roof preached his final sermon before leaving for oonferenoe Bandar before last. A large con* gregation greeted him and Ms discourse was strong and impressive. Mr Roof is a zealous and consecrated Christian worker and has certainly done all in his power to advance the religions internet of his charge. The merchants all - observed Thanksgiving by dosing their places of business Thursday. The clerk's enjoyed being turned loose that day. A good many spent the day mingling with the fair sex and . other amusements. But as I write this my memory reverts to the occasion from which Thanksgiving orig inated and according to the way the day was celebrated then it is how badly abused. The people seem to have lost sight of its original purpose. ' Miss Mittie McGill, accompanied by her f iend, Miss Carrie Roberts, of Florence came home to spend Thanksgiving. Miss McGill is attending school in that city. The parsonage is almost completed. It is a handsome and oommodious building and reflects much credit on the members of the Methodist church, who realised that their pastor needed a comfortable home. Miss Eula Hines visited her home at Florence Thursday. Mr T B Johnson has accepted a position in Charleston. Mr John* sou formerly kept books for O L Sauls, of this place. Miss Ma> el Buzhardt spent Sunday with friends at Lake City. Bad colds are prevailing to some extent since the recent change of the weather. Mrs A A May is spending some time with friends and relatives in < Florence. 1 A big, fine turkey gobbler was raffled by Mr ? L Carsten on Thanksgiving day. This afforded the boys lots of fun, besides Mr Carsten got well paid for his turkey.
