I In addition to the regular lectures br the professors of law of the South Carolina College, the trustees and faculty are pleased to be able to announce for ' the coming session a rery attractive series of lectures to be contributed by some of the leading members of the Bench and Bar of South Carolina., Among those who have consented to deliver one or more lectures to the law classes of the CM lege are: Hon. The trustees and faculty feel that in securing the assistance of these distinguished Judges and lawyers they have accomplished something that will 1 prove of the greatest benefit to those talking the law course In the South Carolina College. The ijumher of those enrolled In.the law department during 1 the last two years ha? been the largest j. In the history of the college, and the hope is entertaln/d that the prospect of these additional lectures may still 1 further increase the growing number of law students. The great value of the training afforded by schools of law has been too thoroughly demonstrated to render ?M?rv anv arguments in their sup port. The day of preparation for the fear by solitary study In a lawyer's office has practically passed. Everyone familiar with the working of a law school must have been impressed with the Increased Interest and seat that result from the mere association of young men who have come together for the common purpose of studying law. The dally discussions of questions of law. not only with the professors, but also with each other, beget an enthusiasm for tfee law which possibly, in some Instances, could never have been acquired otherwise. The advantage of attending a professional school In the State in which a man Is to practice his profession is in no case more obvious than in that of a lawyer. Besides the familiarity gained with the decisions and statute law of the State, CheYriendshlps that he forms at such a, sijbool kdd Very materially to his future usefulness as a citizen. Tbe career of lawyers as a class is more apt to be of a public nhture than that of those engaged In any other profession or business. Not only are all of the Judges of the State drawn from the bar. but the occupants of the legislative and , executive offices are also drawn very . largely from the same source. As so snasy of the members of the legal profession are naturally destined to public careers. It is of no little importance that tile young men who have decided to become lawyers should come fnto close touch with other young men of their own State who have chosen the same life-work. The most lasting friendships are not Infrequently formed during the part of a man's life that is usually devoted to preparation for the bar; and it is .unfortunate if this period should be spent In a State other than that in which he la to live. Several years spent at a profession school in another State sometltoes find the student so completely out -0f touch with the young men of his 1;^- ova State that when he returns to ... a practice his profession he finds "himself Wv laboring under a serious disadvantage. Which in some instances is never ovcr* come, > A law school, however, should be patronised not alone by those Intending to practice law. There is bardly a calling In Ufe fer which one would not be (better prepared by having taken a course in law. I The Colored Peopie Driven out of Morgan Park, Illinois, on Aoc !.nt of Lawlessness. v Chicago, November 3:?Excitement prevails to-day among the colored citizens of Morgan Park as the result of the posting of placards throughout the town giving uotice to all colored persons that they would be allowed forty-e'ght hours in which to leave the place. Several families have already left, taking with them whatever goods they could conveniently carry, and it i& expected that others will follow their example. The order to leave is the outcoms of the murder of | Chief of Police Airey on Saturday night by Mack Wiley, who, with several of his colored friends, was out on a Hallowe'en frolic.
