Mr John M Grnber, Jr., died at Y hit home two miles below Suiters < Depot on Saturday, April 25, 1903. 1 ~.i-\ Mr Grubei was only twenty-five ' years old and bore the respect and esteem of all who knew him. For many months,ne had'been a victim * of that insidious malady, consump > tion, so that his death was. not unexpected. On Sunday following his death, at 4 o'clock p. m., his remains ' ere laid to rest at Union Presbyte- i rian church. Sergt S Oliver D'Bryan, crowned himself on the evening of the 1st inst at the Sixth Anni versify of the Palmetto Litertry Society of Clemson College, by lelivering a most excellent oration mtitled ' "The Tenderest Are the Bravest." Cadet 0'Bryan's oration was a sulogy on the Confederate women; ind fhe forcible manner in which he lelivered it thrilled the hearts of his bearers with incomparable admit a tion for those heroines of 1800-65 tnd proved to them that truer Southern blood never existed than that which flows through his own veins. Before entering Clemson Cadet C 'Bryan spent one year at Clinton Hoi lege, where he developed a taste For literary work, and directly after becoming a student here he joined the Palmetto Literary Society, of which he is now vice president. He is also a member of the '04 annual staff and his frequent writings for die college magazine, "The Chronicle," has caused its managers to look toward him as one of its chief editors for next session. Social affairs here have been quite lively /or the last few days. On Ihtirsday night we enjoyed an adlress delivered by the president of Davidson College under the auspices jf the Clemson Scientific Club, after which a banquet, lasting from 10 p. m. until 3 a. 111., "was served at the Club Hotel. On Friday night the Palmetto Society held its sixth Anniversary, after which quite a number of- the cadets enjoyed a german; arid "qn Saturday night the Clemson-Dramatic club presented the play, "Because She Loved Him So." * '04.
