In two murder cases he was called upon to give expert testimony and the drawings and diagrams he placed in evidence were models of neatness and excellence. Through the courtesy of Mr John H Burkett of Galveston, Texas, we are in receipt of a copy of last Sunday's Galveston News. Mr Burkett is a native ot wiuiamsburg county and keeps posted on events at his old home by reading The County Record. While it is almost a foregone conclusion that the election will be carried for issuing bonds, yet it will be to the interest of the town to roll up as big a majority as possible. The bigger the vote for issuing the bonds the more advantageously they can be disposed of. Parents, remember: W hen you cast your vote for the bond issue you say in effect that you want to give your child the advantage of an oducation at home. If you vote "No," you place yourself on record as opposing your child's best interests. Actions speak louder than words. We are requested to announce that there will be a meeting of Camp Prcssley, on Monday, April 27, held in the court house at Kingstree to elect delegates to the Reunion in Columbia and New Orleans and to attend to such other business as may come before the meeting. We acknowledge with thanks to Dur friend, I)r W L McCutchen, an invitation to the commencement exercises of the University of Maryland, Baltimore, Md., to be held on Wednesday afternoon, April 29. When he hailed James the latter came at him with a rail and he fired believing his ; life to be in danger, .lames come on ; and he struck him on the head with 1 the gun. It appears that that the homicide was the culmiuation of a feud of long existence, covering a period of several years. At one time the feeling become so bitter that Myers and his wife moved to Eftiingham and 1 -1- 1 -- -A iUn ?/\l?/.I come WICK Oil ij at tlic juiiiuauuii va Mrs James, Mrs Myers' mother. The defendant's counsel were Capt John A Kelley and LeRoy Lee, Esq., who stubbornly contested every inch of ground for their client. The solicitor was ably assisted bv Hon W L Bas". The four arguments made in this case were listened to by a crowded court-room and the auditors were amply repaid for their attention, for the speeches were of an unusually high order and elicited much favorable comment. After the closing argument of the solicitor the jury was dismissed until Saturday morning when court re-convened and Judge Gage delivered his charge. It is said by many listeners that this was the ablest i charge that has been heard from the from the bench at this place in many a year. It was teise, clearcut and comprehensive. The jury came out at 5 o'clock Saturday afternoon and amidst a breathless silence the clerk announced the verdict as above stated. The attorneys for the defense gave notice that they would mukp u motion for a new trial, but afterwards reconsidered this course of action. On Tuesday Myers received his sentence of imprisonment, in the State penitentiary for the remanider of his life. Epps Etchings. (Written for last week.)
