Creech has been indisposed lor several days, but I am glad to state that at this writing she is much improved. Messrs. W. E. Nesmith and Bravnard Joyner spent a lew days of last week in Charleston, taking in the exposition. Miss Nita Beatty, an attractive young lady of Smith's Mills, is the iruest of Mr. C. G. Carsten's e i family. Some excitement was caused (here one day last week by the accidental discharge of a breech.loading shot gun. Mr. Earl Matthews was loading the gun with the m izzie pointing toward Mr. A. A. May's store and the whole load of small shot scattered about the premises. Mr. Ilarrell, who runs the railroad pump here, was on the way to supper when the t;hold up" occurred. He says a man came up to him in the i -.i j? a u roau ana wunoui warning u^u him a severe blow, which knock ed him down and cut a gash over one eye. His assailant then caught him in the collar and held him down until he (the assailant) could go through his clothes. This he did in short order, getting nothing for his trouble, however, except two pocket knives and an empty pocket book. While the robbery was being committed Mr. Harrell called loudly for help but 110 one heard him until it was all over and the miscreants had escaped. When the alarm was given the blood hounds weie procured from Lake City and put on the trail; but the result was somewhat disappointing, as the dogs followed the trail onlv a short distance. / Mr. Harrell says that two -men took part in the robbery and he thinks that both are negroes. Evidently they were after money, but they were badly disappointed Qn Monday three negroes Bossie Fulmore, Wesley Fulmoreand Sam Cooper, Jr., were arrested on suspicion anil sent to Kingslree to jail. It is said that one negro has confessed and implicated the other two. The brutal assault upon Mr. Harrell, a comparatively teeble old man, has aroused much jindign iiinn in th?> community and nub lie sentiment demands that proper punishment be meted ont to I lie desperadoes who committed this bold outrage. 'J he congregation was the largest I have seen this year at the Methodist church and he held their closest attention. The sermon was full of hard, common sense and replete with good advice. Cotton planted early is nearly all chopped out. The late planlimr is not up *iiihcienily to chop out. Mr. and Mrs. Peter Bvrdirk, of Suiters, visited relatives in this section last week. Air. I Greeleyville Glints. j Miss Rosa Broun, who had beer critically ill for some time past died Monday morning at 10 o'clock, and was buried Tuesday forenoon, The funeral was attended by a large number of relatives and friends. Mrs. Lottie B. Reynolds, who haf been teaching school at Brogdon, S, C., arrived in Greeleyville Thursday morning for an extended visit witb Mrs. J. J. B. Montgomery and family. Rev. L. L.
