R, which justly incensed the citizens I of that community. On Friday, I November 8, a negro barber, of Trio, (whose name we are not abie to obtain) went to Harpers / anil bought a coop ot chickens, leaving them in Mr. Hubert Giier's yard tor a few moments. When he took the chickens away lie rei turned shortly afterwards and 'old Mrs. Grier that two chickens were missing and demanded their reIturn, using words that were offensive and threatening. Becoming alarmed, Mrs. Grier ran across to the depot for protection and the negro escaped. A telegram was sent to Magistrate W B McCants at Trio advising him to look out for the npgro and arrest him it lie went back there. Mr. McCants succeeded in makiug the arrest and brought the negro back tc Harpers Saturday morning. Wlnle in custody at Harpers the prisoner slipped I he rope with which lie was bound and dashed off into the woods. ?' last accounts he is still at large.
