Lake City will on September 4 vote upon the question of a disj ensary in this town. The object of the election is to test the sentiments of the voters of the town on this matter, ami if a majority of the ballots cast be in favor of the establishment of a dispensary, tin board of control wijl be asked to open one here. Before the di.sp%p sary law was enacted liquor hid been banished from tins town by a vote of the people, and since its passage, every effort to get a dispensary has been fought vigorously and successfully. Now, however, those favoring the move seem to think that there has been a revolution in the feelings of our people. Whether there he any foundation for such a supposition remains to he seen. The alleged change of attitude is attributed to the blind tiger business. There is no doubt whatever that lots of liuuor has been and is still being sold in this community in violation of law, and every effort?and strenuous effort has been made?to break upthe illegal tratiic has failed. Therefore some say that inasmuch as liquor is being.sold here we had better have a dispensary and get the benefit ofthv protits and the protection of the law. This is the argument. This may be convincing to many, but there are two sides to this question us to all others. In the first place >; disptusury may not and probably will not destroy the blind timers, at least in the surrounding country. The denouement may take place soon and when it does, there will he surprises?(he tigers will be surprised and some of our people wilt, we think, be surprised when the the faces under the tiger's skins are revealed. If some of our people do not stand by the council then better than they have iu tire Utforts to suppress illicit traffic and to enforce other law, the condition of our town will he fearful indeed. We all should think well before we cast our ballots. It is generally safe to let veil enough alone. Our town is now prosperous. Jlusiness is good and increasing. New and good neople are moving in. Houses are being built. The whole town is building up. We had better think well. A fearful mistake may be made. On the other hand a dispensary might prove far the b?st. We ?b?n't know?hut the ri<k.
