They are in successful operation in France, Germany Switzerland, Austria and Belgium, and all have proved of great value. The pupils receive instruction in planting, pruning, and the care of trees and shrubs, the preparation of soils and the growing of farm products. In addition to such ihstriction the course in some of the schools includes tuition in dairying, both practical and theoretical. The school gardens are considered as parts of the system of agricultural or farm schools, which are maintained by the various governments. All the governments are greatly interested in the extension of the scientific knowledge of farming, especially the German and French. In France there are now 68 lyceums and colleges for girls, whereas previ 0U8 to 1880, with the exception of private schools, there were no institution for higher education for girls. Of loose mentioned 48 are lyceums supported by municipalities and 28 are municipal colleges. During last year there were in the lyceums 8,431 and and in the colleges 3,563 pupils.
