Thomas' Memory. Probably the most interesting ami Impressive service ever witnessed in Lake City, or this section came off at the Baptist clmuch in this town last .Sunday morning. The occasion was the unveiling of the tablet erected in memory of J. >1. Thomas and a memorial exercise that nccompaincd the unveiling. The presiding officer was \V. L.! Bass, Esq., who, in a few words.! stated the significance of the j gathering, and conducted the unveiling ceremonies. Short, but very touching anu appropriate addresses were made by Itevs. J. M. Weaver, and T. J. Itooke, Mr. J. J. Morris, Rev. ]). I? Crossland, R, K. Truluck E. M. Hicks and J. If. Blackwell. The talks were ail good,?short, pithy and Impressive. We heard "tin rnon uuv th-lt ho hiul nttorideil many exercises of a similar character, and this was the very best he had ever witnessed. The music was good,?well selected and well jendered. The crowd that came to this service was a striking evidence of the esteem in which Mr. Thomas' memory is held. Kvery seat was occupied, aud the rostrum was crowded to the extent of its entire circumference. Comparisons aro odious, but we can not refrain from saying that the giandest, the most magnanimous, tribute we ever heard paid to any man's devotion j to duty was that tendered by Mr. | lil&ckuellin his little speech in honor of Mr. Thomas. It reflected ' much credit upon both the sj>euker' and the subject. The tablet whs unveiled by two little girls, Ruth Williams andSallie llinnant. The record of Mr. Thomas Is such a romurkuhlc one that we wish to give the inscription u|H?n the tablet, a handsome marble one with raised letters: In Memoriam J. M. Thomas, Horn lH2o. IMed 11?00.
