Picnic at Eelin s Landing. July the Uh was truly iiiJ(-pcv ucihv day fur tho.ie who attended the })ienic at Relinks .Lundin*;. All rcstrii tions.were forgotten, and lor a whole delightful day our voting people declared themselves absolved from allegiance to anything that ?? >? Tlifvpis IJ.IJiJIlt I lldl I UVl V.UJVMMJVMM doubtless no spot in our county l?osessing more natural advantages as a picnic ground than the one above mentioned; and we are sure not one ever more successfully entertained it.s visitors. The crowd began to gather early and count iuucd until bout one o'clock, coming from all parts of the county. We know our fri-nus expected a good time when some of them came twenty miles on a July day for it. We believe they were not disappointed. Shortly after arriving the crowd began to scatter over the place until everywhere, -?down by the spring, at the river's edge, in tilt? old house, on the hill, in the buggjes and.in every nook and corner there was a happy pair to be * " * % I 1 M'cn; while tin* air resounueu wun the gay talk and merry laughter of hoys and girls who were relating tile pleasures of the past, ami mingled w ith all, the serious tones of a few w ho were.discussing what lr.ujirt yet he. Mr, 0. H. Skinner's pleasure lxx>t, ' the Hosted" arrived in the morning > witii a jolly load of "pien inkers,*' ,, and remained v.ntil late in the afternoon. Quite a number went to the wharf to see it leave and to hid its passengers come again in the near future. Our friends from Georgetown and vicinity are always welcome among tis. After a long morning of rooming and talking, dinner was acceptanie, and very soon all were laying the foundation tor the following iialp day of en joy 111411, food wan m. t lacking, baskets and boxes that v/er. carried full werejemptied, yet strange to say, the people brought had: everything they tarried. Lemonade was served in abundance, and Mas occasionally drunk in abundaii' t by some of our thirsty youths (the writer included). Ice cream was sold on tLe ground, and v.oe to the ' moneyless man" who happened to take his girl near the tempting sight. In the afteruoon/vyy youjag gentlemen began to play, a "jig" on t)>e lawn .and very eoon a crowd was attracted by the music, which was excellent. We ire sorry we cannot 4 K** f.-w t KuV JuaOPl'/i I?i1 LXiV i>UC I]IUOA^ia.lC)4?Ai liitt wvcii mention for the part they played^ in day's entertainment. Finally the time came to leave, ami cue by one the buggies rolled away carrying their freight to their respective homes. Then l knowthere arose the question;? 4'To whom do we owe thanks for our delightful day?" And 1 know the unanimous answer was. uthe committee." The following are their names: Messrs Bethel Pu]\unt, i>. J. Ferdon, S. IF Snowden, i1 ij /: it 11. 11. Duiuint. Willie Mturratt, W. I). Ferdon, \V. 0. fcuewden Jr., L. F. Jiiiem, J. L. Cook, unci C. Duriug the morning tteir attchtiou was given to the ^^rriwds, showing tliem where to llnd ttoppiug places on the crowded ... - ^.--L Igrounds. Then for two., or three j hours they worked ( faithfully at the I dinner table. satisfying the hungry ' multitude, and sacrificing their own ; pleasure for that of others.
