In many places the roads are badly washed, and the crops seriously damaged. Thioughout this entire section the crop estimate of two weeks ago can not be realized now in consequence of the recent heavy rains. A Match Game of base ball was played here on Tuesday altern noon between the Juniors of our town and the Lcwisville Club. The result was a score of 48 to 27 in favor of the Juniors. This is the second defeat the Lcwisville Club has suffered at the hands of the Juniors. The game was spirited and was witnessed by a number of our citizens, Including some of our prettiest ladies. A Slight Mistake.?Joe O'Cain discovered the bear's trail near his place, and concluded to take a stand for him. He sat up during all of Sunday night with ins gun in posi tion. Just before day Joe became drowsy, but was soon aroused by the approach of what he sdpposcd to bo the identical bear, lie raised his gun, fired and killed ten dollars worth ol calf belonging to Mr. Kirk Robinson. A Row.? A disgraceful row and Blabbing affray occurred on the street near Mrs, Oakman's residence last Sunday. Charles Forest and Wash Golson, both colored, became engag ed in a dispute, which ended in the former stabbing the latter, and cut ting an ugly gash across his throat Golson, who was attended to imme diately by Dr. W. An Infant Found,?On Saturday last while officer Cannon was on his' usual rounds of inspection he discov-l cd, in a lot on one of the back streets, i what appeared lobe a newly made j grave of an infant. After satisfying! himself that such was the case, he ' immediately notified Deputy Coroner Hcidtmnn, who sumraoncd'a jury and repaired to the spot. On opening the grave it was found to contain the body of a young colored infant The jury after examining the mother of the child returned a verdict that the child was still born. Wc notice a considerable quantity of bagging and ties being hauled out by our farmers. This is a pretty good sigii that cotton will suou be ready for market. The impressive mar riage ceremony was performed by the Rev. O. A. Darby in the presence of a huge assembly of friends. The Church bad been beautifully and tastefully decorated with wreaths and garlands, und was brilliantly illumi nated, which Ionian additioual charm to the scene. 'Jhe groom nud his beautiful bride, accompunid by a number of friends, left for the up country on Tuursday morning. We sincerely trust that the pathway of this happy young couple -may lead through fields where there are just enough thorns to remind them of the blooming flowers, and that there may be just enough of clouds in their sky to enable them to appreciate the beau tiful sunshine. That Bear.?It was reported in town one morning last week that the track of a large; bear had been seen near Col. A. D. Fredrick's place, and from recent signs that the animal was certainly in that section. Some of the members of our gun club and a few other brave hearts resolved to hunt Bruin down, and to this end j equipped themselves, and with their dogs, stalled before dawn of the next day npofl the chase. No hear could be found, however, and the hunt was a failuro, except that the party were thoroughly drenched by the very heavy rain luat fell the same morn ing.
