If we were to judge by the num ber of drummers and the tremendous big trunks that are constantly arriv ing, we would say that our merchants are prepairing for a big Fall trade, and people who want bargains must look out for their big advertisements that will appear in due time. The truth of the business is that the business men of Darlington are ex perienced, and know exactly the kind of goods that their customers will want, and when it conies to the exhibition of taste ill selecting, the Darlington merchants have a very enviable reputation. Of course it is needless to say that Darlington is the best cotton market in the Pee Dee section, and if any one does not believe thjs statement, he is perfectly welcome to cairy his cotton else where, and lose money by his lack of knowledge. If every farmer, would make a ]x»int of raising his provisions at home and not only this, hut when ever jsissihle his mules and horses also, he would not be seriously in convenienced if cotton happened to rule no higher than eight cents throughout the whole season. The revision of the Tariff w ill also he of great help in giving ns a chance to place our cotton goods in markets from which we are now practically excluded. The present iniquitous Tariff is a constant drain on the farmers, and for every dollar that he pay in the way of State taxes, he contributes about four for the enrichment of the protected manufacturers.
