BhtiU' fmn'rance Oomnanim be [ieiiciiuii to fer&oui ineir ?ou tracts. Tn some of the Southern States laws have been enacted which re quire in-urance companies to comply with their contracts in compelling them to pay in ease of loss by lire, the full amount upon which they receive premiums. Such a law is greatly needed in South Carolina. We are uu ? able losee the justice in allowing com panies to receive premiums on 'arge insurances against them, and in case of loss pay a sum much smaller than that upon which ihey have leceived a premium. A law of this kind would save our citizens from loss iu that they would get whatever they had expected, or it would have the clfecl o preventing tin over insurance and thus taking wrongfully from the in sured premiums which will never be paid. The demand for a^lawdbr pro tection in this source is great, and any member who would secure the pass ago of such n law would be entitled to the thanks of tho'Stale.? Press tiud JJtnnier. TheEndof theTworld. A lecture delivered at the Berlin University some three in inths ago by l'rofcssor Du Bois Kcymon 1 bears the ominous title, "'The End of Our "World," and soya, that every movc m< n{ of our planet, with thcexxt ptioti of tl e ebb and lined, which i.- caused by tbo attraction of tbo moon, i.-> occa sioned by solar heat. As, however, the sun loses every year a portion of this calorie, science has lately come to ihti conclusion that lie will not exist as an emitter,of warmth more than seven teen million years to conic. During that sj n< e 11 time our curlh w ill get cobler and colder, in proportion as the solar heat shall diminish. The ice wil I advance from the poles to the equator; the earth's population will gradually recede before the a lvancing glaciers; the sun will become less'und less luminous, until he will present ? he appearance of a dark-red ball; aud finally ice will annihilate all vi lality on our planet. Business on the Brain. One night last week the wife of Justice Moses was aroused from a sound .sleep by astern voice: ?'Are you ready lor trial, I say?" '?I'm-h! Don't make a noise, or else you'll wake [the baby," she re plied, endeavoring to soothe him. "Don't talk back to this court," he vociferated. "If you've got any wit nesses, briug'm on, but let your law yer do the tal king." "Why, Tom, how you take on ! What is the matter 1 1 send you up f r sixty days that's what's the matter. Here, Kmlcrs, take her away. Now, I'm ready, for that petty larceny case. Bring up the prisoner." And, jumping out of bed, he start ed for the next room to summon a jury, but fell over a rocking chair, barked his shins, woke up aud asked his wife what the dickens was the matter, anyhow. ?
