Critic*** Purin ? As announced in our last, we nc copied an invitation to visit Ohio's hum, for the purpose of witnessing his experiments, showing the virtue of straw, haves e\.\, in building up poor land, und even rendering im mediate benefit to the crops. We were shown a field of 4?'i a res of corn on laud built up in this manner with the aid of a little col ton seed which a low years ago produced lite most ordi nary ciops, now laden with a crop of the Ik a vies! corn, many i ! the stalks having two full ears, and the field promising a yield of 15 or 'JO bushels to the aeie, Wc noticed that the peas in this corn were luxuriant, which leads us to the conclusion that Critic is right, that tho fai luire of the peas in friend Dukes' field was not due to the suc cessive manuring with cotton see. 1, but to the lack of straw along with it. Wc next examined a field of 43 acres of cotton, manured with raw straw out of the woods and 8 bushels of cotton seed t.i the acre, and tho cot'on ranks with the lust we have seen in the t lounty, equalling so .'mi >t tho mos) highly manured. To eight acres of I his field sail WHS also added and the difference was visibly in its favor. Besides this wc also visited Critic's rice, .sorghum and sugar eano, all of which were doing well. lie lins in 100 acres under cultivation, und we wore impressed with the fact that he h is found tho secret of success which is tho making of the largest yield with tho least ex pense und labor, and withal yearly improving his land. Tho writings of such men arc valuable, and we commend his serie s of orliMcs to the careful study of all w ho want to make farming a pleasure : and success. B>r.
