[For the Orangeburg Times. What Jesus Did fur Us. For im He left His Home on high, For ns to earth He came to <lie, For us He slumbeicd in :i mutiger, For it.') to Egypt, tied a stranger, For us abuse He meekly bore, For us a crown of thorns tie wore, For us He braved Gethsemane, For tin He hung upon the tree, For us His final feast was made, For us by Judaa was betrayed, For us by Puter was denied, For us by pilate crucified, For tin Ilia precious blood wax shed, For UB He slept among the dead. For U8 He rose with might at last, For an beyond the skies He passed, For us He ("line at God'a command, For us He sits at God's right hand. F. I). P. i ??mjjpp ? ? ? ??? Vor the Orangeburg Times. To DIako Farming Profitable and Pleasant. Mr. Editor : "Wo admire your paper and ask Bpaco that wc may, liko J . C H., and J. W.S., of the Democrat, contribute to its columns. Wo shall write you ?a number of let ters on agricultural subjects, if acceptable to you and readers. He will give you the ex perience of thirty years. We profess to know something about the science as well as art of farming. Wo writo gratuitously. AH wo desire of you is to keep cur name from the public. . "We wish to "write as a critic. We propose to deal heavy blows on the old logy who is ploughing in the same furrow his father and grand lather ploughed in. Wo will handle with {?loves off, a class of farmers who are wise in their own conceit. We shall Bet J. C. H., J. W S.,and till writers right, if they sh ould advance [an in correct theory. Wo are ready to answer any questions propounded to us on any subject that you and read ers may desire. We propose to teach the young farmer bow to make his faim pioGtable und farming a pleas ant occupation. In the beginning we would state that this cannot be ac complished with cotton and the phos phatts, as many of us know from sad experience. We must diversify our crops, and make our farm self-sus taining, As soon as we do this we will become independent, and prosper ous, and not before. I do not advise our farmers not to plant cotton, but I do say that be is unwise who neglects his ot her and most, import ant crops for cotton. Cotton and phosphates have half starved, and en slaved the fanners of this County. "We belong to the merchant. We labor from Januaiy to January to make cotton to pay him for advances we bud to Leg lor. Cotton requites too much labor and manure for there to be much profit in it. Ant. t her objection to the cultivation of cotton, is, that it is a great exhauster of the soil, a humus deal r. ying plant. As we shall treat of each crop separately in order to show the profit in them, we ? will close by requesting you to find some one to answer my letters. AOHICUI.TU HA I. Clt t TIC. Men Wanted. The great want of this age is men. Men who uro not for sale. Men who are honest, round from centre to cir cumference, true to the hearts core. Men who will condemn wrong in friend ?r foe, in themselves as well as others. Men whose consciences ureas steady as the needle to the pole. Men who will Mand for the right if the heavens to* ter an d the earth reels. Men who can tell the truth, ami look the world and the devil light in the eye. Mew that neither brag nor run. Men that neither bag nor Hindi Men who have courage without shoutiug to it. Men in \vh om the courage of everlasting life is still, deep and strong. Men who do not cry nor cause their voices to bo heard on the streets; but who will not fail nor be discouraged till judgment be set in the earth.' Men who km w their message and tell it. Men who know their places and fill them. Men who know their own business. Men who will not lie, Men who are not too lazy to work nor too proud to be poor. Men who are willing to eat what they have earned, and wear what they have paid for. Wc ollen see in exchanges mar velous sayings of the little ones, but we believe that Orangeburg will bo allowed the palm for once when this anecdote is related. Materfamilias?
