The return of this season which should bring pleasure and happiness to all hearts, wc hail with joy, and Binccrely hope that the cares of li!e being for a while cast aside, we may indulge iu the recollection of former years, and, the scattered members of the hoiuo circle being re united, we may enjoy the sweet conipaniouship of our loved oues. In dropping a tear to the memory of those who have passed away since the last recurrence of this happy season, whose dear fuccs once beamed brightly into ours, whose loving arms once so fondly encircled us, and whose merry laugh even now rings in our cars, is but. following the dic tate* of an affection which the Al mighty has implanted in the human breast; but, that themiud should con tinually brood over these things which we regard as afflictions, is standing obstinately in the pathway of a kind and beneficent Providence who docs nothing but for our good Then let us all w'clc ?nie this day with a gladucRs that will disperse itself everywhere, and at ,our homes let there he such cheerfulness and gaiety that will lon^ bo remem bered with feelings of pleasure and happiness. The children?Heaven bless their little hearts?always look upon this day "wherein our Saviour's birth is celebrated" as a season of unalloyed festivity, and wo trust that nothing w ill be done on the part of those whose greatest pleasure ought to be to cheer them in thpir fairy gambols and in nocent laughter, to check or disturb their harmless, joyous mirth. Some of the greatest pleasures of c uryjjes, spring from the associations which this season connects with our childish days, and we feel an inex jimiblc happiness in the delusions which win ns 1 nek to them, and help us see ourselves as we then were. A happy happy day is this to the little ones who have anticipated its approach'with brightened eyes and (Xpectant hearts; and may all thai follow it be still happier to them, with nothing to cause a cloud to darken their pathway or fill their _ ittle hearts with gloom. May each succeeding Christmas, us it rolls round upon the great wheel of time find us all ready to welcome it with joyous hearts, a peaceful coun try, and a reverent gratitude for the blessings of a merciful Providence. A Warning to the Colored People Mr. Page, a Republican member of Congress, introduced a resolution a few days ago recommending that the South he allowed representation in Congress only in proportion to the number of the white population. This, taken in connection with the significant sound h proceeding fro.n Republican sources around the Capi tol, points strongly to un abridgment of negro suffrage by the Republican party, jt Democrats however are convinced of the importance to them of thcso36 additional votes in the National Councils, the result of th s stlllVagn, and will resist every attempt at any abridgment of the rights of the colored man. flow important then for the colored man to make h s peace, with the l)ein'>c'ints tit once and w.or? with ti in for the interest | oifi..... 1? *Hf*j) liitVu'lii -| . .. ... oii.i , v.?ath'i. . . 1 Senator Hampton. Stand to the Rack. Our legislators very patriotically and properly passed a resolution to adjourn snir. die on the 23d. There are now, however, some indications of filibustering in the Senate, but we hope there will be no prolongation of the session.
